Anthony “Tony” Voulgaris was named the WIAC Coordinator of Men’s and Women’s Soccer Officials in May, 2022.
Voulgaris has been involved in the soccer community for over 50 years as either a player, coach, referee or assignor. He has served as a sub assignor for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference since 2015, as well as the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference and Chicacoland Collegiate Athletic Conference since 2024.
Voulgaris began officiating in the conference in 1991 and worked numerous regular-season contests. He received more than 20 WIAC Tournament assignments, including the championship contest five times. Throughout his career, he has officiated NCAA Division I, II and III Men’s and Women’s Championship matches, including 30 in the first round, 12 in the second round, eight quarterfinals and two semifinals. In 2020, Voulgaris worked the Division III men’s championship contest between Messiah College (Pa.) and Lynchburg College (Va.). He officiated in Conference USA for 12 years and received conference tournament assignments 10 times.
Voulgaris has worked the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association (WIAA) State Soccer Championship match 29 times as head referee, including 16 girls and 13 boys. He has served as a WIAA advisor for soccer officials for two years and was voted District 4 Referee of the Year in 2019. Voulgaris is registered as a WIAC basketball offical for 18 years.
He belongs to the E.C.S.R.U (Elite College Soccer Referee Unit) as a referee and a board member. He works games in the Big 10, Big East, Horizon League, Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, Midwest Conference and College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Voulgaris is an Emeritus Referee of the National Intercollegiate Soccer Officials Association-Milwaukee Chapter.
Voulgaris graduated from UW-Platteville and was a member of the men’s soccer team. He owns the program record with 38 career assists, while ranking third with 140 points and is tied for fifth with 51 goals. Voulgaris received NAIA District 14 honorable mention honors in 1983, and All-Conference in 1984.
Outside of refereeing and assigning, Voulgaris is very active with the Wisconsin Elks Association. He was the State President in 2015-16 and currently serves on their Board. He belongs to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Fond du Lac, Wis., and has been their parish council president since 2019.
Voulgaris has been employed with Lee Beverage of Wisconsin (Oshkosh) for 33 years. He and his wife of 28 years, Mary, reside in Van Dyne. They have two sons, Demetri (Arizona State) and Michael, and one daughter Alexandra (UW Madison).
