2026 WIAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship Preview University of Wisconsin-La Crosse will seek a fourth consecutive first-place finish at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship (presented by Culver’s) at UW-Platteville’s Williams Fieldhouse Feb. 27-28. This will mark the 57th edition of the event. The Eagles claimed their conference-leading 48th title in program archives a season ago with 217.50 points to surpass UW-Oshkosh’s second-place total of 133.50 points. UW-Whitewater finished third with 89 points, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 75.50, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 49, UW-Stout sixth with 40.50, UW-Platteville seventh with 35, and UW-River Falls eighth with 23. UW-Oshkosh ranks second with six conference championships, while UW-Stevens Point owns two. Competition at this year’s meet will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 27, and 10:00 a.m. on Feb. 28. Medals will be awarded to the top-eight finishers in each of the individual events and the individuals comprising the top-six relay teams. This year’s championship features six teams ranked in the Top 24 of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III Track & Field Rating Index distributed on Feb. 24. UW-La Crosse is the top-ranked team, while UW-Oshkosh is second, UW-Eau Claire fifth, UW-Whitewater 20th, UW-Stout 22nd and UW-River Falls 24th. Returning champions in individual events include: UW-Eau Claire’s Johnny Botsch (2025/pole vault); UW-La Crosse’s Collin Conzemius (2025/400-meter dash), Chase Doornink (2024/400-meter dash), Aidan Matthai (2024/5,000-meter run); Grant Matthai (2025/5,000-meter run), Gabe Olsen (2025/triple jump), Cael Schoemann (2024 & 2025/800-meter run), and Luke Schroeder (2024/200-meter dash, 2023 & 2024/60-meter hurdles); UW-Oshkosh’s Gavin Fritsch (2025/35-pound weight throw), Nolan Miles (2025/200-meter dash), Joshua Rivers (2024 & 2025/long jump), and Davian Willems (2022/60-meter dash); and UW-River Falls’ Jacob Balcome (2025/heptathlon). At the 2025 championship, Balcome received Field Performer of the Meet recognition, while Botsch claimed Newcomer of the Year honors. In 2024, Schroeder was tabbed the Track Performer of the Meet.
