Pitcher
Adam Cootway, Junior (De Pere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran), Secondbase of UW-Whitewater
In seven games during the week, Cootway was 21-for-29 with two doubles, two triples and six home runs. He posted a batting average of .724 and slugging percentage of 1.552. Cootway added 26 RBI and 19 runs scored. He also drew a pair of walks and was hit-by-pitch four times. In a 17-3 seven-inning victory over UW-Platteville on May 5, Cootway became the 10th player in WIAC history to hit for the cycle and the first since 2018. He added a second home run in the contest.

Brandl picked a win in two appearances during the week. In 8.2 innings of work, he struck out seven and allowed a single earned run, holding opposing hitters to a batting average of .069 on the week. Brandl was also fantastic at the plate going 11-for-19 (.579) with a double and home run. He added five RBI and 14 runs scored on the week.

Born went 9-for-18 (.500) with four runs, one double, three home runs, eight RBI and 19 total bases in a four-game series at No. 16-ranked UW-Oshkosh April 28-29. He had a hit in all four games with three multiple-hit contests. In the series finale, Born went 3-for-5 with two home runs and six RBI, including a grand slam in the second inning. He recorded a .500 on-base and 1.056 slugging percentage in the four games.

Comer drove in 12 of UW-Stevens Point’s 50 runs scored in a four-game sweep of UW-Stout April 22-23. He also scored eight runs to account for 40 percent of the Pointers’ run production. He belted three home runs, including two in a 22-0 victory on April 23, added two doubles and two sac flies. Comer also was 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts. He hit .417, slugged 1.333 and had a .550 on-base percentage for the week.

Paulsen pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout in a 22-0 seven-inning win over UW-Stout on April 23. He went all seven innings with a career-high 11 strikeouts. He allowed just three base runners – an intentional walk, a single and a base on balls. Paulsen is now 4-0 on the season with a 2.38 earned run average and 34 strikeouts.

Johnson hit .560 with two doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI across six games for the Blugolds during the week. He posted a slugging percentage of 1.000. He tallied multiple hits in five of the six games, including a career-best four-hit performance — including a home run — against UW-Platteville on April 14. His four-hit showing helped the Blugolds earn their first WIAC victory of the season. In the second game of that April 14 doubleheader, he hit a double, a pair of homers and drove in five runs. Johnson had three games with at least three hits and stole two bases, while registering a perfect fielding percentage during the week.

Bixby needed just 98 pitches to toss a complete game against UW-Eau Claire on April 15. He threw 72 percent of his pitches for strikes and allowed just one unearned run in the victory. Bixby scattered five hits and one walk in the win, and struck out 10 Blugold hitters for his third win of the season.

Van Ess racked up 10 hits, five of which were for extra bases, in UW-Stevens Point’s four game series at UW-La Crosse. He hit .588 (10-of-17) with 19 total bases and a slugging percentage of 1.118. He hit a home run in each game of the doubleheader on April 8, and added three doubles in the four-game series. Van Ess hit safely in all four games with back-to-back 4-for-5 games in the middle of the series. He scored nine runs and had seven RBI.

He went 7.0 innings, allowing five walks and striking out a career-high seven.

Pye hit .467 (7-for-15) with four runs, two home runs, six RBI and 15 total bases in three starts during the week. He recorded a 1.000 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage. Pye also had one stolen base. He went 2-for-5 in a victory at Saint Mary's University (Minn.) on March 28. He went 5-for-10 with four runs, two doubles and two home runs in a doubleheader sweep of UW-Platteville on April 2. He went 3-for-5 with three runs, two home runs, one stolen base and six RBI in the nightcap. Pye had the game-winning RBI against the Pioneers.

In the first game against UW-Oshkosh on April 2, Brandl allowed a single hit, while fanning four in the first four innings against the Titans. For the week, Brandl tossed six innings, allowed two hits, struck out nine and walked four, while holding opponents to a batting average of .105. He was also solid at the plate going 5-for-8 with a pair of doubles and a homerun for four RBI and three runs scored during the week.

Born went 4-for-5 with a run, stolen base and five RBI in a victory over Kalamazoo College (Mich.) on March 21. He had the game-winning RBI in a victory over UW-Stout in the opener of a doubleheader on March 26. He then went 3-for-3 with a run, double and walk in win over UW-Stout in the nightcap. Born recorded a .593 on-base and .636 slugging percentage for the week.

Moore pitched a no-hitter in the Blugolds’ 7-0 victory over Bard College (N.Y.) on March 21 –
the program’s first no-hitter since being reinstated in 2021. He struck out 10 batters in the outing and walked only two, while facing 33 batters in nine innings of work. Moore retired the side in order five times, and seven of his 10 strikeouts came across the final five innings of the game.

O’Brien had a strong start to his 2023 campaign. Leading UW-Whitewater to a 4-0 start on the season, O’Brien hit .714 with 10 hits in 14 at-bats, including three doubles and a homerun. He drove in nine runs, while scoring seven. He also drew five walks during the week. O’Brien opened the season with a perfect 4-for-4 performance at the plate with four RBI on two doubles against Spalding University (Ky.) on March 15. He notched three multi-hit games in the four games.

In his first start, Katz went 8.0 innings in a 4-3 win over the University of Southern Maine on March 14, allowing three runs and one walk with six strikeouts. He then pitched 8.0 innings in a 1-0 victory over Bethel University (Minn.) on March 19, allowing four hits and one walk, while striking out 12.

Brinkman won both of his starts during the week, pitching a combined 16.0 innings. Against Webster University (Mo.) on March 6, he threw his first complete game of the season, striking out two, while allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits and two walks. In the Titans’ 11-4 win over Transylvania University (Ky.) on March 11, Brinkman tossed 7.0 innings and struck out four. He allowed two runs on six hits and two walks. Brinkman improved to 3-0 on the season with the two victories.

Week of Feb. 27 - March 5

Breen had an impressive debut for the Pioneers, finishing 4-for-10 across the three games. He started his career with a 3-for-3 performance against Cornell College (Iowa), which included two home runs, a triple, four RBI, and three runs scored. Breen added his third home run on March 5, against Augustana College (Ill.), while tallying two more RBI. Breen finished the week with four extra-base hits with six RBI and had a .455 on-base percentage and 1.500 slugging percentage.
