2022 WIAC Women's Swimming & Diving Championship Preview University of Wisconsin-La Crosse will strive for a 10th consecutive title at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship (presented by Culver’s) that will be held at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wis., Feb. 16-19. UW-Stevens Point is serving as the host institution for the 50th edition of the women’s championship that will be held in unison with the 59th gathering of the men’s squads. Competition begins on Feb. 16 at 1:45 p.m., with the preliminaries of men’s three-meter diving, while the finals will start at 6:30 p.m., and include a pair of relay events. For competition held Feb. 17 and Feb. 18, preliminaries will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the finals commencing at 6:30 p.m. The final day will feature 10:00 a.m. preliminaries and a 6:00 p.m. start for the finals. Medals will be awarded to the top-eight finishers in each of the individual events and the individuals comprising the top-three relay teams. The 2021 championship was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, the Eagles won the 20th league title in program history – piling up 812.50 points to surpass UW-Eau Claire’s second-place total of 777 points. UW-Whitewater finished third with 603.50 points, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 559 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 369. UW-Eau Claire ranks second in league history with 19 championships, while UW-Stevens Point owns six titles. Former member UW-Madison secured four first-place finishes. UW-Stevens Point’s Anna Pilecky is the most decorated returnee at this year’s championship with five individual titles to her credit. In 2020, she was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle and 1,650-yard freestyle. Her time of 17:07.18 in the 1,650-yard freestyle established a conference meet record. During the 2019 championship, Pilecky posted first-place finishes in the 500-yard freestyle and 1,650-yard freestyle. UW-Eau Claire’s Emma Steffel is the defending champion in the 200-yard backstroke, while UW-La Crosse’s Amanda Wciorka and Sarina Le were members of the winning 200-yard medley relay in 2020. At the 2019 championship, Wciorka and Aubrey Lonergan were members of the triumphant 200-yard freestyle relay team. In addition, UW-Eau Claire’s Katherine O’Connell contributed to the first-place 400-yard freestyle relay team. UW-Oshkosh’s top swimmer this season has been Cadence Showalter, while Bailey Schroeder has registered the team’s best diving scores. UW-Whitewater’s swimmers have been led by Gianna Gnewuch and Gabby Sponseller. # # # # #
