Student-Athlete Spotlight: Cole Clausen, UW-Eau Claire

Each week during the 2025-26 academic year, the WIAC will feature two student-athletes (one male and one female) from one of its eight institutions for a “Student-Athlete Spotlight” Q & A segment. Why did you choose UW-Eau Claire?
I chose UW-Eau Claire because there was a perfect blend between strong academics and a strong athletics program. 

What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete?
Competing in the WIAC means every single time we get on the field we are competing. We will be playing against the best in Division III. I love division III because I can focus on getting a great education and kill it in my sport at the same time.

What is your greatest sports moment? 
Hitting a home run at my first baseball game for Eau Claire. The energy from my teammates and the crowd made it unforgettable. 
 
What is your favorite thing to do off the court/field with your teammates?
Hangout and watch sports games together.
 
Who is someone that you look up to?
I look up to my parents. They’ve always been my biggest supporters and taught me the value of hard work and perseverance.
 
Do you have any words of advice for younger/upcoming student-athletes?
Enjoy every moment and never take the opportunity for granted. Work hard and stay focused on your goals.

Hardworking

Becoming an Optometrist

A non-athletic talent that you have is?
I'm pretty solid at drawing and painting.

What’s your dream sporting event to attend?
World Series or Super Bowl.
 
Do you have any pre-game/pre-event superstitions or rituals? If so, what are they?
I always listen to the same playlist before our games. Also, I always throw with the same throwing partner before our games.
