UW-La Crosse’s Grieger Named NABC Player of the Year and D3hoops.com All-America; Leads Five On All-Region/All-District Squads

MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Sam Grieger has been named the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division III Player of the Year and All-America First Team, as well as D3hoops.com All-America Second Team. In addition, five Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) individuals claimed All-Region/All-District honors.

Grieger is the first player in program history to be tabbed the national player of the year by the NABC. He is the sixth in WIAC archives, joining UW-Platteville’s Merrill Brunson (1999) and Logan Pearson (2024), UW-River Falls’ Rich Melzer (2004), UW-Stevens Point’s Jason Kalsow (2005), and UW-Whitewater’s Chris Davis (2012).

Grieger led the WIAC with 25.7 points per game - a mark that ranks seventh in NCAA Division III - 212 free throws made and 248 free throws attempted and 2.5 assist/turnover ratio. He also led the conference with 275 field goals made and 533 field goals attempted. His 797 points this year breaks the single-season school record of 666 by Tony Mane in 2010-11. The 797 points ranks fourth in single-season conference history. Grieger scored a school record 46 points at UW-Oshkosh on Jan. 7. He scored in double figures in all 31 games this year and had at least 25 points in 17 contests.

Grieger also was tabbed the D3hoops.com All-Region 9 Most Outstanding Player and NABC District 9 Player of the Year. He is the first individual in program history to receive the distinction from each organization. Grieger was joined on the D3hoops.com first team by UW-Whitewater’s Collin Madson.

UW-La Crosse’s Dustin Derousseau and JJ Paider were second team selections from D3hoops.com, while UW-Stevens Point’s Josiah Butler claimed third team honors.

Madson also earned first team honors from the NABC, while Derousseau and Butler were second team picks.
