All-WIAC Women’s Ice Hockey Honors Announced

MADISON, Wis.--The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced its women’s ice hockey awards for the 2026 season, based on voting by the conference coaches.

University of Wisconsin-River Falls swept the three major awards with Megan Goodreau receiving Player of the Year accolades, Sophia Hess claiming Newcomer of the Year honors, and Joe Cranston collecting Coach of the Year recognition.

Goodreau’s selection marks the ninth time that UW-River Falls has had a player secure the distinction.  She secured first team accolades for the fourth consecutive year. Goodreau leads the WIAC with 36 goals, 38 assists and 74 points. She had four goals against Saint Mary’s University (Minn.) on Feb. 10, and added hat tricks against Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.) on Jan. 3 and UW-Superior on Feb. 27. Goodreau’s 36 goals are a conference single-season record and her 17 power-play goals are tied for the most in NCAA Division III history. Her 206 career points are the most in WIAC history.

Repeat selections on the first team from a year ago included: UW-Eau Claire’s Madisyn Krumholz; and UW-River Falls’ MaKenna Aure and Jordan O’Kane. Aure added first team recognition in 2023 and 2024. In 2023, she was tabbed the Newcomer of the Year.

Hess is second in the conference with 26 goals, 30 assists and 56 points. She has recorded at least one goal in 19 games and tallied hat tricks against Beloit College on Dec. 3, and UW-Stevens Point on Feb. 14. A newcomer is defined as a student-athlete who used her first season of participation in women’s ice hockey this season. Transfers are not eligible unless they didn’t participate in women’s ice hockey at their previous institution.

Cranston claimed the coaching award for the third straight year and sixth time in his career (2017, 2019, 2021, 2024, 2025). He has led the Falcons to a 27-1 record and the WIAC regular-season title, as well as the O’Brien Cup. UW-River Falls will host a quarterfinal contest in the NCAA Division III Championship on March 21.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was announced for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each institution as selected by that team.
