Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week - September 22

MADISON, Wis.--Following are the WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 15 - 21.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Cameron Cullen, Senior (Kewaunee, Wis./Kewaunee), of UW-Oshkosh
Cullen won his second individual title in two weeks on Sept. 19, when UW-Oshkosh debuted the XC Ranch, its new home course. He was the first of four Titans to cross the finish line in the top 10, running a 24:54.02 to help the Titans win the meet with 30 points.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Faith Wehrman, Freshman (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower), of UW-Stevens Point
Wehrman finished second at the UW-Oshkosh Titan Fall Classic to lead UW-Stevens Point to the team title. She posted a time of 21.50.3, just behind a UWO alumni.

FOOTBALL
Offense
Kyle Hass, Junior (Prior Lake, Minn./Prior Lake), Quarterback of UW-La Crosse
Haas went 29-of-39 (74.4%) for 344 yards and four touchdowns in UW-La Crosse's 31-22 win over NCAA Division II Wayne State University (Mich.) on Sept. 20. He set career-highs in completions, attempts and yards, while tying his career-high in touchdown passes. Haas threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Bowman with 7:55 left in the second quarter to tie the game, 7-7. He had a pair of touchdown passes in the third quarter to give the Eagles a 21-7 lead, including a six-yard pass to Jack Janke and 11-yard pass to Bowman. Haas completed the day with a 67-yard touchdown pass to Janke with 7:33 left in the fourth quarter.

Defense
Kyle Dietzen, Senior (Omro, Wis./Omro), Linebacker of UW-Oshkosh
Dietzen recorded his second straight double-digit tackle contest against NCAA Division II Roosevelt University (Ill.) at home on Sept. 20, with 13 tackles, including seven solo, both season highs. He sacked the Lakers' quarterback, who fumbled the ball for 16 yards, and the Titans recovered the ball before scoring on the next play.

Special Teams
Seth Adams, Sophomore (Utica, Ill./La Salle-Peru), Kicker of UW-Whitewater
Adams bolstered the No. 16-ranked Warhawk win over No. 6-ranked University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (Texas) on Sept. 20, despite being ill the entire trip to Texas. Adams took on kickoff and punt duties in addition to his regular place-kicking role. He did not give the Crusaders a chance to utilize their explosive kick returner by sending four kickoffs through the endzone for touchbacks. Adams also limited opportunities for Mary Hardin-Baylor’s special teams unit with a pair of punts – a 58-yard bomb and a pooch kick that was downed at the three-yard line. He added a pair of extra points and a pair of field goals – hitting from 21 and 29 yards – in the UW-Whitewater victory.

WOMEN'S GOLF
Sydney Bornhorst, Senior (Grayslake, Ill./Warren Township), of UW-Oshkosh
Bornhorst helped UW-Oshkosh place third in the Benedictine University (Ill.) Midwest Region Classic on Sept. 19, with an eighth-place finish. She totaled 76 strokes (4-over par) and carded four birdies in the first round. The second round was canceled due to inclement weather.

MEN’S SOCCER
Offense
Jaxon Buckley, Freshman (Kingsford, Mich./Kingsford), Forward of UW-Stevens Point
Buckley scored four goals, including two game-winners as UW-Stevens Point went 2-0-1 during the week. On Sept. 17, he scored two goals, including the game-winner in the opening minute of play in a 4-0 win at Ripon College (Wis.). On Sept. 21, Buckley scored both goals in a 2-1 win at Beloit College (Wis.). On the week, he took 10 shots, six on goal and four goals.

Healy bolstered the Warhawk defensive efforts during the week. Against Beloit College (Wis.), he helped hold the Buccaneers to just three shots on goal and one corner opportunity.  Against No. 7-ranked North Park University (Ill.) later in the week, Healy played the full 90 minutes, helping the Warhawks stick with the top-ranked team for a majority of the game.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Offense

Cass Klitzke, Senior (Reedsburg, Wis./Reedsburg), Forward of UW-Stevens Point
Klitzke scored four goals in UW-Stevens Point’s three matches during the week as the Pointers went 2-0-1. She put the Pointers ahead in the 21st minute in an eventual 2-2 draw at University of Dubuque (Iowa) on Sept. 16.  On Sept. 20, Klitzke score both goals, including the game-winner with five seconds left, in a 2-1 win at Luther College (Iowa). On Sept. 21, she scored for the third-straight match with a go-ahead goal in the 25th minute in a 2-1 win over Wartburg College (Iowa). It marks the first time in Klitzke’s career that she has scored in three-straight contests.

Wawrzyn had three assists and one goal in a pair of wins as UW-La Crosse improved to a school best 8-0 start. She had two assists in a 5-0 victory over Simpson College (Iowa) on Sept. 18. Her first assist came on Ella Opie's game-winning goal. Wawrzyn had the game-winning goal in UW-La Crosse's 5-0 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.) on Sept. 21. She helped the Eagles' defense record two shutouts as UW-La Crosse held its two opponents to four shots on goal.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
Singles
Caitlyn Stadter, Sophomore (Mondovi, Wis./Mondovi), of UW-La Crosse
Stadter advanced to the quarterfinals at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Midwest Regional, going 3-1. After a first-round bye, she opened with a win over Clara Hills of Lawrence University (Wis.) (6-0, 6-2) followed by a victory over third-seeded Pari Chaven of Grinnell College (Iowa) (6-1, 1-6, 10-5). Stadter defeated Julia Moreno of Luther College (Iowa) in the next round (6-3, 6-1) before dropping her quarterfinal match to Xingchen Liu of Carthage College (Wis.) (6-3, 6-2).

Ha and Weaver went 4-1 in the doubles bracket of the ITA Midwest Regional Tournament. The duo cruised through their four wins, not dropping more than four games in the 8-game pro sets. Ha/Weaver reached the semifinal round before falling to the top-seeded team from Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.).

Leeke tied a career high during the week as the Blugolds posted a pair of victories. After recording a double-double against the College of Saint Benedict (Minn.) with 15 kills and 12 digs, Leeke tied her career high in kills with 25 successful attacks against No. 1-ranked UW-Whitewater. As she hit at a .302 rate, Leeke averaged 4.44 kills per set, 4.94 points per set, and 2.11 digs per set.

Kline averaged 6.19 digs per set in five matches during the week, helping the Blue Devils go 4-0 at the UW-Superior Stinger Classic. She had a WIAC-high 34 digs against UW-Superior and currently leads the WIAC and is 19th in the nation with 4.28 digs a set.  This week, she totaled 99 digs and was named to the Stinger Classic All-Tournament Team. Kline had 15 digs against No. 3-ranked UW-Oshkosh. 19 vs College of St. Scholastica (Minn.), 11 vs Knox College (Ill.) (in 2 sets), 34 vs UW-Superior and added 21 more against Concordia College-Moorhead (Minn.). She added three service aces and received 130-of-131 serves cleanly.

Kiebel put up career numbers and a pair of double-doubles during the week as the Blugolds went 2-0. On Sept. 17, Kiebel set a career high of 37 assists against the College of Saint Benedict (Minn.). The personal accolade was short lived for the first year as Kiebel broke her own personal record on Sept. 19, with 58 assists as the Blugolds upset No. 1-ranked UW-Whitewater. With wins against two opponents in the AVCA Top-25 Coaches Poll, Kiebel finished her nine sets with 10.56 assists per set and 2.89 digs per set.
