Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week - February 17

MADISON, Wis.--Following are the WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 10 - 16.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Josiah Butler, Sophomore (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran), of UW-Stevens Point
Butler averaged 26.0 points per game in UW-Stevens Point’s two games during the week. He set a career high with 28 points, including the game-winning layup with four seconds remaining, in 76-75 win at UW-Oshkosh on Feb. 12. He followed that up with 24 in the home finale against UW-Eau Claire on Feb. 15. Butler also had six rebounds, two assists and a block on the week.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Kacie Carollo, Senior (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater), Guard of UW-Whitewater
Carollo averaged 23.0 points per game in a pair of wins during the week. She posted 24 points bolstered by a perfect 7-of-7 night at the free throw line on against UW-La Crosse on Feb. 12. She added five rebounds, four assists and two steals in that contest. On Feb. 15, Carollo made 6-of-9 from the floor, including 5-of-7 from three-point range for 22 points. She added nine rounds, three assists and four steals in the game. For the week, Carollo averaged 23.0 points on 51.9 percent shooting from the field and 50.0 percent from long range, adding seven rebounds, 3.5 assists and 3.0 steals in just under 29 minutes of action per game.

WOMEN’S GYMNASTICS
Specialist
Lili Guy, Senior (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard North), of Gustavus Adolphus College
Guy had a career weekend in a dual victory over Hamline University (Minn.) on Feb. 14, breaking the individual program vault record and helping the team set the top program score in the event for the third time this season. Guy's 9.775 led to a team score of 47.750, bettering the 47.000 set on Jan. 18. Guy also led the Gusties on the uneven bars and floor exercise. She finished second on uneven bars with a 9.275, while her 9.700 on floor exercise was good for first overall.

Jamie Beatty, Freshman (Lakeville, Minn./South), of UW-Stout
Beatty had a career-night in a dual meet with Simpson College (Iowa) on Feb. 14. She won the all-around with a personal best 38.400, which is the third-highest all-around score in UW-Stout history. She also set personal bests in the vault (9.625), uneven bars (9.750), and floor exercise (9.675). Her 9.750 score on the uneven bars tied for the second-highest score in school history.

MEN’S ICE HOCKEY
Fletcher Anderson, Senior (Thunder Bay, Ont.), Forward of UW-Stevens Point
Anderson had four points in the series at UW-Superior, including three in a 3-1 win on Feb. 14. He had two goals and an assist in the win that set up a winner-take-all season finale. Anderson had another assist in the 2-2 tie on Feb. 15.

WOMEN’S ICE HOCKEY
Bailey Olson, Senior (Willmar, Minn./Willmar), Forward of UW-River Falls
Olson recorded her second hat-trick of the season on Feb. 15, as the No. 2-ranked Falcons defeated UW-Stevens Point 9-3 on the road to secure the WIAC regular-season title - program’s fifth in a row. Olson is the NCAA Division III scoring leader with 44 points and currently riding a nine-game point streak.

MEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
Track
Gunner Schlender, Senior (Brillion, Wis./Brillion), of UW-Whitewater
Schlender registered the best time in NCAA Division III this season in the 5,000-meter run at the Midwest ELITE Invitational hosted by UW-Whitewater. He crossed the line in 13:59.81 - a career best by more than 13 seconds. Schlender surged across the finish line to win a tight race that featured the top five times nationally in the event.

Karter Rashke, Senior (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH), of UW-Stout
Rashke was the top collegiate finisher in the shot put at the UW-Stout Quadrangular with a throw of 57-5 3/4 (17.52m). That throw ranks second in the conference and fourth in NCAA Division III, and beat the national leader at the meet.

Plautz, Reybrock, Thomas and Jennings won the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:51.09 at the UW-Whitewater Midwest Elite Invitational. The relay ranks first on the WIAC Honor Roll and second in NCAA Division III.

Jones placed second in the 20-pound weight throw at the UW-Stout Quadrangular on Feb. 14. Her throw of 61-5 (18.72m) ranks second in the WIAC and fifth in NCAA Division III.

Brooke Howard, Sophomore (Rock Falls, Ill./Rock Falls), Outfield of UW-La Crosse
Howard hit .333 (two-of-six) with two doubles, three RBI and four total bases in a pair of games on Feb. 15. She added two walks and one stolen base, recording a .667 slugging and .500 on-base percentage. Howard went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two walks with one stolen base against Bethel University (Minn.) and added three RBI and one run vs. The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.).

Carmen Follette, Sophomore (Dousman, Wis./Kettle Moraine), Righthanded Pitcher of UW-La Crosse
Follette appeared in both games on Feb. 15, pitching 3.2 innings while not allowing a run. She allowed four hits and one walk while striking out seven. Follette earned the save in UW-La Crosse's 10-2 win over The College of St. Scholastica (Minn.).

MEN’S TENNIS
West Division - Singles
Tyler Nelson, Junior (Waunakee, Wis./Waunakee), of UW-Whitewater
Nelson won the decisive singles match as the Warhawks defeated Carthage College (Wis.) on Feb. 14. He tallied a reverse sweep - after dropping the first set 2-6, Nelson turned the match around, winning the next two 6-4 and 6-3.

Juan Gallego, Sophomore (Madison, Wis./Memorial) & Ethan Wurtzel, Senior (Menomonie, Wis./Menomonie), of UW-Eau Claire
In the top doubles match of a Feb. 14 dual against Bethel University (Minn.), the duo of Gallego and Wurtzel won 6-4 over Carter Sheard and Watson Sheard to keep the Blugolds unbeaten this spring. Gallego was playing in the doubles lineup for the first time this season and, along with Wurtzel, helped the Blugolds win the dual 6-1.
