Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week - October 26

MADISON, Wis.--Following are the WIAC Kwik Trip Athletes of the Week for the week of Oct. 20 - 26.

MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY
Phillip Dart, Junior (Aurora, Ill./Oswego East), of UW-Platteville
Dart was UW-Platteville's top finisher at the UW-Oshkosh Open on Oct. 24, placing sixth overall with a time of 26:03.2 in the 8,000-meter race. He was the top individual scorer at the meet, placing only behind an unattached runner and four Wisconsin TC competitors. His finish led the Pioneers team that placed first among three scoring teams at the meet.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Lauren Wegand, Freshman (Kaukauna, Wis./Little Chute), of UW-La Crosse
Wegand won the individual title in helping lead UW-La Crosse to a dual victory at Luther College (Iowa) on Oct. 24. She completed the 5,000-meter course in 18:41.7. A total of 36 runners completed the race.

FOOTBALL
Offense
Jack Janke, Junior (Ellsworth, Wis./Ellsworth), Wide Receiver of UW-La Crosse
Janke caught 14 passes for 186 yards (13.3 average) with one touchdown in UW-La Crosse's 44-13 victory over No. 18-ranked UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 25. He caught a six-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter to give the Eagles a 21-3 lead. Ten of Janke's 14 catches resulted in a first down for UW-La Crosse. His 14 receptions and 186 yards both were career-highs. Janke's 14 catches are tied for fourth in single-game school history.

Goodman led the Blue Devil defense with 15 total tackles (7 solo) against UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 25. He scored the first points of the game on a 30-yard pick six, jumping the route and racing in untouched on just the second Pointer possession of the game. He also added a pass break up as the Blue Devils defense held UW-Stevens Point to just 154 passing yards.

Scheberl was a perfect 10-for-10 on PATs during the Falcons’ road win at UW-Eau Claire. He also made a 20-yard field goal and totaled a career-high 647 yards on kickoffs, averaging 53.9 yards per kick with two touchbacks.

Connor Urban, Sophomore (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West), Forward of UW-Stevens Point
Urban recorded his third-consecutive multi-point match in a WIAC win at UW-River Falls on Oct. 24. He scored a goal and added two assists for a season-best four points. His second assist of the match was on the game-winning goal. Urban now leads the WIAC in assists this season.

Westley Hankes, Sophomore (Edgerton, Wis./Edgerton), Defender of UW-Platteville
Hankes was a key piece on UW-Platteville's back line during the week, as the Pioneers posted a pair of shutouts with a scoreless draw against North Park University (Ill.) and a 7-0 win over UW-Stout. The Vikings managed just five total shots (two on goal) in the 0-0 draw, while the Blue Devils finished with two late shots (both on goal) when the game was out of reach. Hankes also scored one of the Pioneers seven goals on Oct. 25, as his goal in the 52nd minute increased the lead to 3-0.

Bigler led the Falcons to a pair of WIAC wins on the week over UW-Stout and UW-Eau Claire as UW-River Falls moved into second place in the conference standings. She totaled four points with two goals, scoring the game-winners in both games - her team-leading sixth and seventh goals of the season.

Bain helped lead the Falcons to a pair of wins on the week over UW-Stout and UW-Eau Claire, allowing just one goal with a .923 save percentage and making 12 saves. First, she shut out the Blue Devils in Menomonie on Oct. 22, for her third shutout of the season, followed by an eight-save win on Oct.25 over the Blugolds, improving her record to 7-4-1.

Swimming
Shawn Denis, Freshman (Rhinelander, Wis./Rhinelander), of UW-Stevens Point
Denis won both the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly with times of 59.55 seconds and 53.29 seconds, respectively, at the Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.)/Minnesota Mankato State (Minn.) Triangular on Oct. 25.

Trant won both the one- and three-meter diving events with scores of 328.90 and 577.35, respectively, recording school records for both events at the Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.)/Minnesota Mankato State (Minn.) Triangular on Oct. 25.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING
Swimming
Sienna Della-Peruta, Junior (Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake Central), of UW-Oshkosh
Della-Peruta won three individual events and was a member of a first-place relay squad in the Titans’ 16-event, 240-57-point sweep of Carroll University (Wis.) at Albee Hall & Pool on Oct. 25. She won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.10, the 200-yard backstroke in 2:15.85, and the 400-yard individual medley in 5:05.09, while racing first in the 400-yard medley relay that finished the event in 4:11.64.

Diving
Hannah Martini, Senior (Muskego, Wis./Muskego), of UW-La Crosse
Martini won the three-meter title at the UW-La Crosse Eagle Eleven Diving Meet on Oct. 25. She captured the title with a pool record point total of 484.20, breaking the record of 472.15 set by Kayley Alioto in 2018. Martini qualified for the NCAA Division III Regional Meet with her score. She also finished second (434.75) in the one-meter competition in the UW-La Crosse Eagle Eleven Diving Meet.

WOMEN’S TENNIS
Singles
Kaitlyn Remke, Freshman (Johnsburg, Ill./Marian Central), of UW-Whitewater
Remke took the No. 3 singles bracket at the WIAC Invitational on Oct. 26. After a first-round bye, she only dropped one game in the semifinal match (4-0, 4-1) to set up a championship contest against Lauren Lindow of UW-La Crosse. Both sets went 4-3, but Remke battled it out to win the pair of tiebreakers – 4-3(3) and 4-3(9).

Doubles
Tasha Bailey, Graduate Student (Wausau, Wis./Wausau West) & Lily Jorgenson, Sophomore (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School), of UW-La Crosse
Bailey and Jorgenson won the No. 1 doubles flight title at the WIAC Invitational on Oct. 26. Bailey and Jorgenson won with a 3-0 record, defeating Ashlyn Dellemann/Molly Garber of UW-Stout in the first round (6-2). The duo defeated Abby Weaver/Crystina Lee of UW-Whitewater in the semifinals (6-3) and won the flight with a victory over Chloe Regal/Annie Wierzbicki of UW-Stevens Point (6-2) in the championship match.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Offense
Emma Barton, Junior (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH), Middle Blocker of UW-Stout
Barton hit .419 with 31 kills and 15 blocks (3.67 points per set) in UW-Stout's three wins during the week. She hit .500 (9 kills and 5 blocks) in a win over Hamline University (Minn.). Then at No. 8-ranked UW-Whitewater, she had a career-high 16 kills (.343 hitting percentage) with nine blocks, including the match-sealing kill to give the Blue Devils their first win over the Warhawks since 1994, snapping a 40-game streak. She then hit .545 in a sweep over Augustana College (Ill.) (6 kills, 0 errors).

Petersen and the Falcons went 3-1 on the week as she led the defense with 6.14 digs per set with a .905 receiving percentage, including 1.000 receiving clips in three of four matches, totaling 86 digs along with five service aces.

Kiebel continued to fuel the Blugold offense during UW-Eau Claire's 3-0 victory over UW-Stevens Point on Oct. 22. She recorded 35 assists for an 11.67 per set rate. While converting assists on 43.2% of her sets, Kiebel helped the Blugolds tally 43 kills and attack at a .237 rate.
