Baseball 5/14/2024 1:55:17 PM All-WIAC Baseball Awards Announced Printable PDF of the 2024 All-WIAC Baseball Team MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Matt Scolan and Michael Hilker Jr. were chosen the Kwik Trip Position Player of the Year and Kwik Trip Pitcher of the Year, respectively, to lead the individuals chosen to the 2024 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Baseball Team by the league coaches. In addition, UW-Whitewater’s Jack Hagen was selected the Kwik Trip Newcomer of the Year and Warhawks head coach John Vodenlich was named the Kwik Trip Coach of the Year. Scolan secured first team honors for the second straight year. He leads the conference with 64 runs scored, while ranking second with 57 RBI, third with a .727 slugging percentage, 69 hits, 16 doubles and .490 on-base percentage, and sixth with a .401 batting average and 12 home runs. Scolan has recorded at least one hit in 36 games, including 24 multi-hit performances. He has produced multiple RBI in 16 contests. Hilker Jr. leads the league with a 1.37 earned run average, 90 strikeouts, and a .167 opponent batting average, while ranking second with seven wins and fourth with 59.1 innings pitched. He has struck out at least 10 batters in six games, including 17 against UW-Stout on March 30 – the second-most in a game in program history. Hagen leads the conference with eight victories, while ranking third with a 3.07 earned run average, fourth with a .230 opponent batting average, and sixth with 55 strikeouts and 55.2 innings pitched. A newcomer is defined as a student-athlete who used his first season of participation in baseball this season. Transfers are not eligible unless they didn’t participate in baseball at their previous institution. Repeat selections on the first team from a season ago included: UW-La Crosse’s Mac Born, Isaiah Katz (Pitcher of the Year) and Tyler Schmitt (Newcomer of the Year); UW-Oshkosh’s Connor Brinkman, Jake Surane and LJ Waco; UW-Stevens Point’s Bradley Comer; and UW-Stout’s Justin Sedin. Born added first team honors in 2022, along with Brinkman (Newcomer of the Year), Surane, Comer, and UW-Whitewater’s Cade Berendt. In 2021, Comer was a first team selection and Born was tabbed the Newcomer of the Year. Vodenlich secured the coaching honor for the 11th time and has led the Warhawks to a 35-8 record and a spot in the NCAA Division III Championship. UW-Whitewater claimed the WIAC regular season and tournament titles this year and Vodenlich recorded his 700th win at the helm of the program in a 12-2 victory over UW-Oshkosh on April 8. An All-Sportsmanship Team was named for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.
