MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY Christian Patzka, Senior (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights), of UW-Whitewater Patzka waited until the last 2k to close the gap created by Wartburg College’s (Iowa) Isaiah Hammerand, who had built up a lead of 10 seconds over the field at the halfway point of the Augustana College (Ill.) Interregional on Oct. 19. Patzka ran negative splits for the 8,000 meters, 12:02.3 for the first 4k and 11:50.4 over the last 4k to beat Hammerand by just over seven seconds for the win. (Woodbury) WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY Gwen Hinz, Junior (Freedom, Wis./Freedom), of UW-La Crosse Hinz captured the individual title in helping lead UW-La Crosse to the team championship at the Tori Neubauer Invitational at Maple Grove Venues, LLC on Oct. 19. She completed the 6,000-meter course in 22:07.6, leading the entire race. It was her first career individual title and became the first UW-La Crosse runner to win the crown since Emma Malooly in 2021. Hinz ran a personal-best by 22 seconds. (Pewaukee) FOOTBALL Offense Trae Tetzlaff, Senior (Waukesha, Wis./West), Wide Receiver of UW-Oshkosh Tetzlaff became the Titans’ all-time receptions leader in the final play of the third quarter in UW-Oshkosh’s 24-17 upset win over No. 6/6 UW-Platteville at home on Oct. 19 in front of a homecoming crowd. He passed Sam Mentkowski’s record of 180 catches with 12 on the day for 152 yards and reeled in the go-ahead 54-yard touchdown in the first play of the fourth quarter. He now has 182 receptions in his three seasons at UW-Oshkosh. It was the Titans’ fourth win over a ranked opponent this year. (Franklin) MEN’S SOCCER Offense Andrew Phillips, Sophomore (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville), Midfielder of UW-Eau Claire Phillips had a career day in a 7-1 victory over UW-Stout on Oct. 18. He scored his first career hat trick, delivering three goals in the win over the Blue Devils. Phillips scored his first career goal less than two minutes before halftime, and then polished off a hat trick with goals in the 51st and 54th minutes. He made one save in the team's 2-0 win over Dubuque on Oct. 15, before making a pair of saves in a 4-0 win against UW-River Falls on Oct. 18. (Oregon) WOMEN’S SOCCER Offense Amaya Thesing, Freshman (Onalaska, Wis./Onalaska), Forward of UW-La Crosse Thesing had a goal in UW-La Crosse's 2-2 tie with Carleton College (Minn.) on Oct. 20. Her goal late in the first half cut the lead to 2-1. The game featured a pair of teams receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll. Carleton entered the game ranked second in Region IX and UW-La Crosse third. Thesing had six shots in three contests this week with three shots on goal. She helped the Pointers limit UW-Whitewater to just two shots on goal. Gustafson also tallied the game-winner off a corner kick. (Schaumburg) MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING Swimming Jesse Hammes, Junior (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie), of UW-La Crosse Hammes finished second (47.20 seconds) in the 100-yard freestyle and 10th (54.37 seconds) in the 100-yard backstroke at the All-Wisconsin Showcase in Brown Deer, Wis., on Oct. 19, featuring seven teams, including a pair of NCAA Division I schools. WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING Swimming Rowan Sinclair, Freshman (Temecula, Calif./Great Oak), of UW-Oshkosh Sinclair grabbed two top-8 finishes at the All-Wisconsin Showcase on Oct. 19, beating out all NCAA Division III competition in both events. She took fifth in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:17.18 and finished sixth in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:56.85. WOMEN’S TENNIS Singles Molly Garber, Freshman (Blaine, Minn./Blaine), of UW-Stout Garber went 2-0 during the week at No. 1 singles, securing straight-set wins against Sailor Mohlenbrock of Bethany Lutheran College (Minn.) and Elif Oezen of UW-Superior. Garber defeated Mohlenbrock 6-2, 6-1 helping lead the Blue Devils to a non-conference victory over the Vikings. Garber added an impressive 6-0, 6-4 win over UW-Superior to finish the regular season. (West) Doubles Ava Andrae, Freshman (Cedarburg, Wis./Cedarburg) & Crystina Lee, Freshman (Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian), of UW-Whitewater Andrae and Lee picked up a doubles point with an 8-3 win at the No. 3-doubles flight against UW-Oshkosh’s Brianna Owens and Courtney Carpenter. The Warhawk duo was down 2-3 at the changeover, but secured their match with 6-straight games. Also nominated: No other individuals were nominated. WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL Offense Brooke McCune, Sophomore (Osseo, Wis./Osseo-Fairchild), Outside Hitter of UW-Stout McCune totaled 42 kills in two matches during the week for UW-Stout. She averaged 4.67 kills/set, while hitting .232 and adding 13 digs and two blocks. Her 22 kills were the third most in the WIAC this season. In an Oct. 16 match against No. 18-ranked UW-Platteville, Erickson tallied 21 digs in a 3-2 victory. On Oct. 18, she recorded a career-high 31 digs in the Blugolds' 3-0 win over Bethel University (Minn.), surpassing her previous best of 25 digs.
