Women's Ice Hockey 3/8/2023 1:55:38 PM All-WIAC Women’s Ice Hockey Selections Announced Printable version of the 2023 All-WIAC Women's Ice Hockey Team MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Sophie Rausch and UW-River Falls’ Maddie McCollins were tabbed the Kwik Trip Co-Players of the Year to lead the individuals selected to the 2023 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Ice Hockey Team by the league coaches. In addition, UW-River Falls’ MaKenna Aure received Kwik Trip Newcomer of the Year honors, while Northland College’s Jason Carter collected Kwik Trip Coach of the Year accolades. This marks the first time in the 10-year history of the player of the year award that it has been shared. Rausch is the third Blugold to receive the honor, joining Courtney Wittig (2019) and Erin Connolly (2020). She leads the WIAC – and established single-season program records – with 32 goals and 49 points. Rausch also owns a conference-best 12 power-play goals, while ranking second with 137 shots and eighth with 17 assists. She recorded hat tricks against Hamline University (Minn.) on Dec. 6, 2022, and College of St. Scholastica (Minn.) on Jan. 24. McCollins’ selection marks the sixth time that a UW-River Falls player has claimed the honor. She tops the conference with 145 shots, while ranking second with 28 goals and 48 points, and fifth with 20 assists. McCollins has registered hat tricks against Saint Mary’s University (Minn.) on Nov. 4, 2022, and Northland College on Jan. 27. She owns five power-play goals and four game-winning goals. Aure is the third individual in Falcon history to collect the newcomer distinction. She ranks second in the WIAC with a plus/minus of 35, ninth with 11 goals and 10th with 25 points. Aure has added a pair of game-winning goals. A Newcomer of the Year is defined as a student-athlete who used her first season of participation in women’s ice hockey this season. Transfers are not eligible unless they didn’t participate in women’s ice hockey at their previous institution. Repeat selections on the first team from a season ago included: UW-Eau Claire’s Hallie Sheridan; and UW-River Falls’ Holly Eckers and Abigail Stow. Eckers and Stow also earned first team status in 2021, along with UW-River Falls’ Alex Hantge (Newcomer of the Year) and UW-Stevens Point’s Olivia Schultz. Stow added first team recognition in 2019 and 2020 to become the first five-time All-WIAC first team honoree in conference history. Carter received the coaching honor after leading the Jills to the semifinals of the WIAC Tournament/O’Brien Cup (presented by Culver’s) for the first time in program history. An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.
