MADISON, Wis.
--University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire’s Quinn Green and UW-Stevens Point’s Fletcher Anderson were chosen the Kwik Trip Co-Players of the Year to lead the individuals selected to the 2023 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Ice Hockey Team by the league coaches. In addition, UW-Superior’s Colton Friesen received Kwik Trip Newcomer of the Year honors and Rich McKenna collected Kwik Trip Coach of the Year recognition.

This marks the first time in the 10-year history of the player of the year award that it has been shared. Green is the third Blugold to receive the distinction, joining Tyler Green in 2016 and Patrick Moore in 2017. He is second in the conference with 14 goals, third with 26 points, ninth with 74 shots and 10th with a plus/minus of 11. Green added three game-winning goals.

Anderson’s selection marks the seventh time a Pointer has claimed the honor. He leads the league with 28 points and a plus/minus of 26, while ranking second with 14 goals and 89 shots, and fourth with 14 assists. Anderson has registered four power-play goals.

Friesen is seventh in the WIAC with 22 points and 76 shots, while ranking eighth with 11 goals. He added four power-play goals on the season. He becomes the second Yellowjacket to win the newcomer award, joining Dylan Johnson in 2020. A Newcomer of the Year is defined as a student-athlete who used his first season of participation in men’s ice hockey this season. Transfers are not eligible unless they didn’t participate in men’s ice hockey at their previous institution.

McKenna claimed the coaching distinction after leading the Yellowjackets to a 15-12-2 record, including a 9-5-1 mark against WIAC adversaries and tie for second-place in the league standings. It was the second straight 15-win season for UW-Superior – the best-two year stretch for the program since a combined 36 victories in 2008 and 2009.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.
