Student-Athlete Spotlight: Emily Buffington, UW-Oshkosh

Why did you choose UW-Oshkosh?
I choose Oshkosh because I really trusted coach Lauren. I was never able to come on a visit because of COVID, so I put my full trust in her and took a leap of faith to move here and I love it.

What causes do you care about?
I really care about organizations like the humane society and their mission to shelter animals. I recently adopted my kitten from the humane society, and I think adopting is much better than buying pets.

What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete?
The WIAC really feels like a family. Although everyone is a different team and there are rivalries, I think everyone is supportive of each other.

Last season when our team won nationals, but I also became a national champion in bars.

We love to get ice cream from Culver’s.

What is your dream job? 
To run social media for a professional team or run a blog.
 
Three things on your "bucket list"?
---Skydiving.
---Travel to Europe.

A non-athletic talent that you have is?
I am a decent baker and cook.

Do you have any pre-game/pre-event superstitions or rituals? If so, what are they?
Yes, I have a couple. I always wear four hair ties and a clip in my hair, I eat the black forest juicy burst fruit snacks before meets, and I always have to drink a cherry slush Alani NU before, and I have to use a certain water bottle.
