The segments will be posted every Thursday and individuals are selected by the institution. The WIAC Student-Athlete Spotlights are presented by Culver's. Name: Emily Buffington Institution: UW-Oshkosh Hometown (High School): Huntersville, N.C. (Lake Norman Charter School) Year in school: Junior Sport: Women’s Gymnastics Major: Multimedia Journalism Why did you choose UW-Oshkosh? I choose Oshkosh because I really trusted coach Lauren. I was never able to come on a visit because of COVID, so I put my full trust in her and took a leap of faith to move here and I love it. What causes do you care about? I really care about organizations like the humane society and their mission to shelter animals. I recently adopted my kitten from the humane society, and I think adopting is much better than buying pets. What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete? The WIAC really feels like a family. Although everyone is a different team and there are rivalries, I think everyone is supportive of each other. What is your favorite… Menu item from Culver’s? Last season when our team won nationals, but I also became a national champion in bars. What is your favorite thing to do off the court/field with your teammates? We love to get ice cream from Culver’s. One word that describes your team? Resilient. One word that describes you? Loyal. What is your dream job? To run social media for a professional team or run a blog. Three things on your "bucket list"? ---Skydiving. ---Travel to Europe. ---Go to a Patriots game in Foxborough. A non-athletic talent that you have is? I am a decent baker and cook. Do you have any pre-game/pre-event superstitions or rituals? If so, what are they? Yes, I have a couple. I always wear four hair ties and a clip in my hair, I eat the black forest juicy burst fruit snacks before meets, and I always have to drink a cherry slush Alani NU before, and I have to use a certain water bottle. # # # # #
