Student-Athlete Spotlight: Gabrielle Winstead, UW-Stout

Why did you choose UW-Stout?
I chose Stout for the polytechnic hands-on mechanical engineering degree, while also being able to compete gymnastics for the school.

What other clubs/organizations on campus are you involved in?
I am really involved in Cru on campus.
 
What causes do you care about?
I am passionate about working with special needs people as my brother is special needs and I have helped out with the Special Olympics and other similar organizations.

What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete?
As a Division III athlete, I am able to balance and prioritize academics with sports. Also, it gives me more opportunities to be able to compete for our team than a Division I college could offer.

When we went to North Carolina and competed against UNC and Yale and beat three of our school records.
 
What is your favorite thing to do off the court/field with your teammates?
Team dinners, whether they are at our cafeteria or are pre-meet pasta nights at someone’s house.

Enthusiastic.

Cheerful.
 
What is your dream job? 
A hands-on engineering job that can support my hobbies and a family.
 
Three things on your "bucket list"?
---Travel to every national park in the US.
---Hike Mount Adams.
---Travel to Belize.
 
A non-athletic talent that you have is?
I have my Amateur HAM radio license.

Do you have any pre-game/pre-event superstitions or rituals? If so, what are they?
I don’t have any.
