MADISON, Wis.
--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Jenna Weinfurt and Morgan Jensen were selected the Kwik Trip Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, to top the individuals chosen to the 2023 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Volleyball Team by the league coaches. In addition, UW-Whitewater’s Aubrie Krzus was recognized as the Kwik Trip Newcomer of the Year and UW-Oshkosh’s Jon Ellmann the Kwik Trip Coach of the Year.

Weinfurt claimed first team honors for the third consecutive season and is the first individual in program history to receive the Offensive Player of the Year award. She ranks third in the conference with 457.5 points (4.72 per set) and fourth with 392 kills (4.04 per set). Weinfurt has reached double figures in kills in 26 of 28 matches, including a season-best 19 kills on two occasions.

Jensen secured the Defensive Player of the Year honor for the second time in her career (2021), becoming the second individual in conference archives to accomplish the feat. UW-Whitewater’s Brittany Robinson won the award in 2017 and 2018. Jensen is a four-time all-defensive team honoree (2019, 2021, 2022) and leads the WIAC with 4.79 digs per set. She has posted at least 15 digs in 17 matches, including a season-high 30 digs against Transylvania University (Ky.) on Sept. 15.

Krzus is the second Warhawk to receive the Newcomer of the Year distinction, joining Chloe Buescher (2019). Krzus leads the conference with 9.64 assists per set, while ranking eighth with 81 blocks. Her 51 assists against Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Oct. 13, are the second-highest total in the WIAC this year. A Newcomer of the Year is defined as a student-athlete who used her first season of participation in women’s volleyball this season. Transfers are not eligible unless they didn’t participate in women’s volleyball at their previous institution.

Repeat selections on the first team from a season ago include: UW-Oshkosh’s Riley Kindt; UW-Platteville’s Emma Carlson; UW-Stevens Point’s Ashley Kopp (Offensive Player of the Year) and Grace Michalski; UW-Stout’s Sidney Hoverman; and UW-Whitewater’s Kirsten Anderson. Kindt was also a first team selection in 2021, along with Kopp, who claimed Newcomer of the Year recognition.

UW-Eau Claire’s Sheridan Dettmann and UW-Oshkosh’s Abby Fregien (Defensive Player of the Year) were repeat picks on the all-defensive team from the 2022 campaign.

Ellmann secured the award for the second straight season. He has directed the Titans to the WIAC regular-season title and a stellar 33-0 overall record. The 33 consecutive wins are the most in conference history, breaking the previous mark of 31 set by UW-Platteville in 1992.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was announced for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each team.
