UW-Stout's Hamer and Griner and UW-La Crosse's Quam Named WIAC Kwik Trip Football Athletes of the Week

MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stout's Levy Hamer and Cannon Griner, and UW-La Crosse's Adam Quam have been named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Kwik Trip Football Athletes of the Week for the week of Sept. 12 - 18.

Hamer (Sr., WR, Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) scored the game-winning touchdown with 15 seconds remaining to lift UW-Stout to a 28-25 win over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Sept. 17 in St. Peter, Minn. But the 62-yard score was not Hamer’s only 60-plus yard reception. Hamer hauled in a 63-yard touchdown with 2:53 left in the third period to pull UW-Stout to within striking range at 25-20. For the afternoon, Hamer hauled in five passes for 160 yards and a career-high three touchdowns, recording his first score with 3:10 left in the first period on a 25-yard pass from QB Sean Borgerding. The 160-yard day was the 12th time in Hamer’s career the 2022 preseason All-America pick exceeded 100 receiving yards in a game.

Griner (Jr., DB, Mesa, Ariz./Red Mountain) finished with 10 tackles, including a team-high eight solo tackles, and one fumble forced and one interception in a 28-25 win over Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) on Sept. 17. With Gustavus Adolphus looking to expand their halftime lead, Griner forced a fumble on the UW-Stout 34 that Nathan Williamson recovered. After UW-Stout pulled to within 25-13 late in the third, Griner stepped in front of a pass on the UW-Stout 5 and returned the ball eight yards to the 13. The Blue Devils scored on the following drive to pull to within 25-20.

Quam (So., LB, Holmen, Wis./Holmen) blocked a pair of potential game-leading field goals in UW-La Crosse's 28-21 victory at NCAA Division II Wayne State University (Mich.) on Sept. 17. He blocked a 45-yard field goal with 7:35 left in the third quarter with the score tied, 21-21. On the next Wayne State possession, Quam blocked a Warriors' 39-yard field goal with 2:21 remaining in the third quarter. UW-La Crosse earned its first win over an NCAA II team since a 48-0 victory over Missouri Science & Technology on Sept. 26, 2009.
