The segments will be posted every Thursday and individuals are selected by the institution. The WIAC Student-Athlete Spotlights are presented by Culver's. Name: Jordan Meciej Institution: UW-Platteville Hometown (High School): Grayslake, Ill. (Grayslake Central High School) Year in school: Junior Sports: Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Major: Mechanical Engineering Why did you choose UW-Platteville? I chose Platteville because a small school where you can get to know your professors along with getting hands on experience either in the labs or shops. I also love the beautiful campus and the trails not far off the campus. What other clubs/organizations on campus are you involved in? I am involved in undergraduate research on piezoelectric energy harvesters Shop attendant for campus shops Active member of NSLS where we volunteer highway cleaning and making plarn (plastic yarn) for the homeless that gets sent to a group that knits them to mats. What do you like most about competing in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and being a NCAA Division III student-athlete? The best part of being Division III and in the WIAC is competing with the conference teams every week and seeing each other’s progress, you will get to make some good friends not only amongst your team but others. Stubborn. What is your greatest sports moment? Clearing an 11’ 6” bar for the first time at Dubuque last year is my favorite. It’s always fun to get a PR but when some of your best friends are there celebrating with you it makes it really special. Do you have any words of advice for younger/upcoming student-athletes? Ask lots of questions, enjoy every second with your team and don’t stress about your performance too much. What is your favorite thing to do off the court/field with your teammates? It’s always fun to grab dinner after practice or a meet, we talk about performances and what TV shows and movies we are watching at the time. If you could trade places for a day with a person, who would it be and why? Mondo Duplantis. He is the same age as me and has two pole vault world records under his belt. I would be interested what his day-to-day life is like for a pro. What is your dream job? I hope to find a career in manufacturing engineering creating innovative solutions. Maybe at John Deere, Milwaukee Tool or Oshkosh. Three things on your "bucket list"? ---Visit all 50 states and hike/explore each ---Go bungee jumping. ---Hug a sloth. Do you have any pre-game/pre-event superstitions or rituals? If so, what are they? Self-care the night before icing and rolling out. Also always start the morning with coffee. What is your biggest “pet-peeve”? Groups walking slow and all walk shoulder to shoulder. # # # # #
