UW-La Crosse Falls In NCAA Women’s Soccer Quarterfinal Contest

--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse fell 4-3 in a shootout at Loras College (Iowa) at the Rock Bowl in a NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Quarterfinal contest on Nov. 21. The game ended in a 2-2 double overtime tie forcing the shootout.
 
UW-La Crosse ended its season at 16-4-4 and earned a spot in the quarterfinals after beating Washington University-St. Louis (Mo.) on Saturday. The contest against the Bears ended in a 1-1 double overtime tie and the Eagles won the shootout 3-1.
 
The No. 9-ranked Duhawks took a 1-0 lead at 31:00 as Payton McDonnell scored an unassisted goal. The Eagles quickly responded with the tying goal with Shana Macphail scoring at 32:59 on Katie Feller’s assist. The game remained tied, 1-1, at halftime. UW-La Crosse had four shots in the first half, while Loras totaled five.  

Loras took a 2-1 lead at 70:37 with Emma Casebolt scoring off a corner kick. McDonnell recorded the assist. UW-La Crosse came back to force overtime as Alexis McMahon scored at 85:51 on Feller's second assist of the game. The Duhawks and Eagles each had two shots in the final 3:00 of regulation with Kyndal Kells of Loras and Quinn Shannon of UW-La Crosse both recording a save. 

The Eagles had three shots in the first overtime period, while Loras had two. The Duhawks had the only shot in the second extra session.

Playing its second straight shootout, UW-La Crosse scored on its first attempt by Ellie Arndt. Loras tied the shootout at 1-1 on McDonnell's attempt.  Feller converted UW-La Crosse's second shot for a 2-1 lead, but Loras tied it on Brynn Jacobi's attempt.

The Eagles' Ainsley Allan and Duhawks' Megan Wick both missed on the third attempts in the shootout. After Jenna Nichols missed on UW-La Crosse's fourth shot, Hannah Schmitz connected for Loras to give the Duhawks a 3-2 advantage. Megan Goodman’s shot was good for UW-La Crosse to force a 3-3 tie, but Savannah Johnson recorded the eventual winner on the fifth attempt for Loras to give the Duhawks the 4-3 win. 

UW-La Crosse finished with 14 shots, including nine on goal. Natalie Schisel had a team-high three shots with one on goal. Macphail had two shots, both coming on goal. Eight different players recorded a shot on goal. Loras totaled 13 shots with five coming on goal. Schmitz finished with four shots (one on goal), while McDonnell had two shots, both on goal. 

Loras had seven corner kicks in the contest with UW-La Crosse totaling four. 

Shannon recorded three saves for the Eagles, while Kells registered seven for the Duhawks.
