All-WIAC Men’s Ice Hockey Choices Announced

--University of Wisconsin-River Falls’ Christian Hausinger was chosen the Player of the Year to headline the individuals selected to the 2020 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Ice Hockey Team by the league coaches. In addition, UW-Superior’s Dylan Johnson was tabbed the Newcomer of the Year, while UW-River Falls’ Steve Freeman secured Coach of the Year honors.
 
Hausinger is the first player in program history to receive Player of the Year distinction in the seven-year history of the award. He tops the conference with 36 points and 26 assists, while ranking 10th with 10 goals. Hausinger’s six power-play goals place him third in league. He recorded a pair of hat tricks, including the season-opener against Finlandia University (Mich.) on Nov. 1, 2019 and UW-Stout on Jan. 14, 2020. Hausinger recorded at least one point in 19 games, including 11 multi-point performances.
 
Johnson is the highest scoring freshmen in the WIAC, ranking seventh with 12 goals and 10th with 25 points. He also added three power-play goals. A Newcomer of the Year is defined as a student-athlete who used his first season of participation in men’s ice hockey this season.
 
Repeat selections on the first team from a year ago included: UW-Eau Claire’s Jake Bresser; UW-Stevens Point’s Luke McElhenie; and UW-Superior’s Troy York. UW-Eau Claire’s Adam Parsells claimed first team honors in 2018, while UW-River Falls’ Zach Quinn was a first team pick in 2017.
 
Freeman received the coaching award for the 10th time in his career after directing the Falcons to a 16-10-3 record, including a 7-6-2 mark against WIAC opponents. The 16 wins are the most since the 2015-16 campaign, while the seven league victories are the most since the 2014-15 season.
 
An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.
