UW-River Falls’ Moran Tops All-WIAC Women’s Ice Hockey Squad; UW-Superior’s Laughlin Named Coach of the Year

MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-River Falls’ Carly Moran was selected the Player of the Year to lead the individuals chosen to the 2018 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Ice Hockey Team by the league coaches. In addition, UW-Superior’s Dan Laughlin was tabbed the Coach of the Year.
Moran is the third player in program archives to earn the honor, joining Chloe Kinsel (2016) and Dani Sibley (2017). She received first team recognition for the third straight season and leads the WIAC with 25 goals and 46 points, while ranking second with 21 assists. Her totals include five power-play goals and two game-winning goals. Moran has recorded at least one point in 20 of 27 games, including a season-high four points at St. Olaf College (Minn.) on Jan. 31. She has multiple goals in nine contests. Her 84 career goals lead the program’s all-time list, while her 83 career assists and 167 career points rank second.
Repeat selections on the first team from a season ago included: UW-Eau Claire’s Erin Connolly and Courtney Wittig; UW-River Falls’ Haley Nielsen; UW-Stevens Point’s Ellie Punnett; and UW-Superior’s Mikayla Goodin. Punnett was also a first team selection in 2016 and becomes the first Pointer to earn first team recognition three straight years.
Laughlin received the coaching award for the second time in his career (2015) after leading the Yellowjackets to a 14-11-2 record – their first winning season since the 2014-15 campaign.
An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.
