UW-La Crosse Owns Advantage At Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship
OSHKOSH, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, the 14-time defending champion, owns the advantage following the first of two days of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship (presented by Culver’s) at UW-Oshkosh’s Kolf Sports Center on Feb. 26.
The Eagles have compiled 73.50 points through the first seven events to exceed UW-Oshkosh’s second-place sum of 43.50 points. UW-Stevens Point is third with 43 points, UW-Platteville fourth with 40, UW-Eau Claire fifth with 31, UW-Whitewater sixth with 19, UW-Stout seventh with 16 and UW-River Falls eighth with seven.
UW-La Crosse’s Ross Denman became just the second three-time winner of the 400-meter dash in WIAC history, posting a time of 48.76. UW-Stout’s Terry Anders also accomplished the feat from 1995-97.
UW-Eau Claire’s Alex Mess captured the shot put with a heave of 57-10 1/2, while the Blugolds’ distance medley relay team of Nick Petersson, Kevin Brooks, Ryan Graham and Josh Thorson was victorious in 9:57.37.
UW-Platteville and UW-Stevens Point each had a pair of individual winners. The Pioneers’ Sam Poser finished first in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:53.59, while Matthew Dwyer had a winning height of 16-6 3/4 in the pole vault.
The Pointers’ Neil Pedersen secured the one-mile run with a time of 4:08.93, while Jerry Williams was triumphant in the long jump with a leap of 23-4.
