UW-La Crosse Grabs Lead At Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship

OSHKOSH, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, the three-time defending champion, grabbed the lead after the first of two days of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship (presented by Culver’s) at UW-Oshkosh’s Kolf Sports Center on Feb. 26.
 
The Eagles accumulated 61 points through the first eight events to surpass UW-Oshkosh’s second-place total of 52.50 points. UW-Eau Claire is third with 49.50 points, UW-Stout fourth with 47, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 41, UW-Platteville sixth with 32, UW-Whitewater seventh with 22.50 and UW-River Falls eighth with 6.50.
 
UW-La Crosse’s Kaitlyn McDaniel was victorious in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:42.44 and Autumn Miller captured the shot put with a heave of 46-4 1/4. The Eagles’ distance medley relay quartet of Valerie Jones, Bria Halama, Rachel Atchison and Karina Nelson posted a first-place time of 12:21.14.
 
UW-Stevens Point’s Shannon Burke became the first individual in WIAC archives to win three straight pole vault titles with a height of 12-5 1/2, while UW-Platteville’s Amber Williams claimed her second consecutive crown in the long jump with a leap of 19-0 1/2.
 
UW-Eau Claire’s Jessie Reineck won the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.08, while teammate Sarah Glidden posted a first-place height of 5-6 1/2 in the high jump.
 
UW-Stout’s Courtney Shaffer captured the one-mile run with a time of 5:12.40

Shot Put:  Autumn Miller (UW-La Crosse), 46-4 1/4 (14.13m)
