UW-Stout Secures Women’s Golf Crown

REEDSBURG, Wis.
--University of Wisconsin-Stout secured the 2016 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship (Presented by Culver’s) at Reedsburg Country Club on Oct. 9.
 
The Blue Devils won their third title in the last five years and secured an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship that will be conducted May 9-12, 2017, in Houston, Texas. UW-Stout won this year’s crown with 980 strokes during the 54-hole event to edge the 985 strokes compiled by defending champion UW-Oshkosh. UW-Whitewater took third with 1,005 strokes, while UW-Eau Claire was fourth with 1,033, UW-Platteville fifth with 1,061, UW-River Falls sixth with 1,102 and UW-Stevens Point seventh with 1,114.
 
UW-Whitewater’s Ashley Hofmeister captured medalist honors in the 47-player field with 238 strokes to become the first Warhawk to accomplish the feat since Nicole Toeppe in 1999. UW-Stout’s Ashley Hernandez placed second with 239 strokes, while UW-Oshkosh’s Kayla Priebe was third with 242 and UW-Stout’s Madison McCambridge fourth with 246. UW-Oshkosh’s Laura Stair and Micayla Richards tied for fifth with 248, while UW-Platteville’s Stephanie Baribeau and UW-Oshkosh’s Hannah Braun tied for seventh with 249.
 
UW-Stout head coach Howie Samb was selected the Coach of the Year for the sixth time in the last eight years. UW-Eau Claire’s Kaitlyn Moore and UW-Whitewater’s Stephanie Stair were named co-recipients of the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award, which is sponsored by Badgerland Financial.
 
An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school. Named to the squad were:  UW-Eau Claire’s Kaitlyn Moore; UW-Oshkosh’s Laura Stair; UW-Platteville’s Lauren Frances; UW-River Falls’ Maddie Flack; UW-Stevens Point’s Jacquelin Halverson; UW-Stout’s Rachel Hernandez; and UW-Whitewater’s Kayla Asleson.
