UW-Oshkosh Claims Advantage At Women’s Golf Championship
REEDSBURG, Wis.--Defending champion University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh claimed the advantage at the 2016 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship (Presented by Culver’s) after the second of three rounds at Reedsburg Country Club on Oct. 8.
The Titans trailed UW-Whitewater by two strokes after the first 18 holes of the event, but turned the deficit into a five-stroke lead entering the final day. UW-Oshkosh has accumulated 657 strokes through 36 holes to surpass UW-Stout’s second-place total of 662 strokes. UW-Whitewater sits in third place with 664 strokes, while UW-Eau Claire is fourth with 683, UW-Platteville fifth with 715, UW-River Falls sixth with 739 and UW-Stevens Point seventh with 754. The team winner will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship that will be conducted May 9-12, 2017, in Houston, Texas.
Individually, UW-Whitewater’s Ashley Hofmeister tops the 47-player field with a 36-hole total of 158 strokes. UW-Oshkosh’s Laura Stair is second with 162 strokes, while UW-Eau Claire’s Allison Chomniak, along with UW-Stout’s Rachel Hernandez and Trystin Kluess are tied for third with 163. UW-Oshkosh’s Kayla Priebe and Micayla Richards are tied for sixth with 164, while UW-Whitewater’s Kayla Asleson is eighth with 165, UW-Oshkosh’s Hannah Braun ninth with 167 and UW-Stout’s Madison McCambridge 10th with 168.
The 54-hole championship will conclude on Oct. 9 with tee times beginning at 10 a.m.
