UW-Whitewater Leads Women’s Golf Championship
REEDSBURG, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Whitewater owns the advantage at the 2016 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship (Presented by Culver’s) following the first of three rounds at Reedsburg Country Club on Oct. 7.
The Warhawks accumulated 335 strokes to top defending champion UW-Oshkosh’s second-place total of 337 strokes. UW-Stout is third with 340 strokes, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 345, UW-Platteville fifth with 361, UW-River Falls sixth with 373 and UW-Stevens Point seventh with 379. The team winner will earn an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship that will be conducted May 9-12, 2017, in Houston, Texas.
Individually, UW-Eau Claire’s Allison Chomniak tops the 47-player field with 80 strokes. UW-Whitewater’s Ashley Hofmeister is second with 81 strokes. A three-way tie for third place with 83 includes UW-Eau Claire’s Molly Lattery, UW-Oshkosh’s Laura Stair and UW-Stout’s Madison McCambridge. UW-Oshkosh’s Kayla Priebe and UW-Whitewater’s Kayla Asleson are tied for sixth with 84, while seven players are tied for eighth with 85, including UW-Oshkosh’s Micayla Richards and Hannah Braun, UW-River Falls’ Nicole Frederickson, UW-Stout’s Rachel Hernandez and Trystin Kluess and UW-Whitewater’s Maddie McCue and Kaitlin Bowe.
The 54-hole championship will resume on Oct. 8 with tee times beginning at 10 a.m.
