UW-La Crosse Wins Third Consecutive Women’s Indoor Track & Field Title

PLATTEVILLE, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse won its third consecutive title following two days of competition at the 2015 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship at UW-Platteville’s Williams Fieldhouse on Feb. 28.

The Eagles collected the 23rd first-place finish in program history with 207 points to surpass UW-Oshkosh’s second-place sum of 123 points.  UW-Eau Claire finished third with 104 points, UW-Stout fourth with 80, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 66, UW-Platteville sixth with 55.50, UW-Whitewater seventh with 51, UW-River Falls eighth with 12.50 and UW-Superior ninth with one.

UW-La Crosse claimed a pair of individual titles during the second day of events as Claire Gordee established a conference meet record of 8.71 in the 60-meter hurdles, while Erin McCauley secured the pentathlon with 3,443 points.

UW-Eau Claire and UW-Oshkosh each secured three individual crowns.  The Blugolds’ Carly Fehler claimed the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash with times of 7.74 and 24.99, respectively.  Lucy Ramquist placed first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:50.68.

The Titans’ Kylee Verhasselt was triumphant in the 800-meter run for the second straight year with a time of 2:14.32, while Kasey Ederer won the high jump with a leap of 5-5 3/4 and Melanie Brickner had a first-place fling of 62-10 in the 20-pound weight throw.

UW-Platteville’s Amber Willliams was victorious in the triple jump with a leap of 39-3 3/4.

UW-Stout won the 4x400-meter relay for the first time in program history as Molly Brion, Alex Titterud, Laurisa Titterud and Jada Hamilton posted a time of 3:57.02.

UW-Whitewater’s Shelby Mahr received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  It included one member from each school.  Named to the squad were:  UW-Eau Claire’s Steph Dunlavy; UW-La Crosse’s Laura Muzia; UW-Oshkosh’s Melanie Brickner; UW-Platteville’s Cassandra Thorngren; UW-River Falls’ Nicole Manteuffel; UW-Stevens Point’s Rychia Bosman; UW-Stout’s Brooke Loeffler; UW-Superior’s Kate Weyenberg; and UW-Whitewater’s Chelsie Bence.
