UW-La Crosse Collects Fourth Consecutive Women’s Swimming & Diving Crown
BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse secured its fourth consecutive crown after three days of competition at the 2015 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 21.
The Eagles collected the 15th first-place trophy in program history with 826 points. UW-Whitewater took second with 750 points, UW-Stevens Point third with 617, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 587 and UW-Oshkosh fifth with 272.
UW-La Crosse won a pair of individual titles on the third day of events. Sara Zemanovic secured her third straight 100-yard freestyle crown with a time of 51.86. She became the fourth individual in league archives to win the event at least three times. Brooke Reynolds was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke for the third straight season with a time of 2:03.19 and Jordan Anderson earned Diver of the Meet honors for her efforts during the championship.
UW-Whitewater’s Amy Spaay claimed the 200-yard breaststroke for the third straight year with a time of 2:19.35. She is the fourth individual in WIAC history to place first in the event at least three times.
The Warhawks’ Sierra Becker was victorious in one-meter diving for the third consecutive season with a score of 444.80, while Michaela Matthys established a conference-meet record time of 2:04.19 enroute to winning the 200-yard butterfly. Kayla Martin posted a first-place time of 17:24.26 in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
The UW-Stevens Point quartet of Amanda Walker, Gemma Pillsbury, Alexa Pronga and Emily Nienhaus won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:29.24. Walker was selected the Swimmer of the Meet.
UW-Whitewater’s Joel Rollings claimed the Coach of the Year honor, while UW-La Crosse’s Brooke Reynolds received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.
