UW-Oshkosh Secures Women’s Golf Title

NEKOOSA, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh secured the 2015 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship following three days of competition at Lake Arrowhead Golf Course on Oct. 11.
The conference title for the Titans is the fourth in program history and first since 2003. UW-Oshkosh also claimed the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship that will be conducted May 10-13, 2016, in Houston, Texas. The Titans secured this year’s crown with 992 strokes, while UW-Eau Claire placed second with 1,039, UW-Whitewater third with 1,049, UW-Platteville fourth with 1,069, UW-Stout fifth with 1,101, UW-Stevens Point sixth with 1,179 and UW-River Falls seventh with 1,228.
Individually, UW-Oshkosh's McKenzie Paul became the third medalist in program archives, joining Markka Farrington (2000) and Cheryl Treadwell (2002). Paul exceeded the 43-player field with 232 strokes during the 54-hole championship to surpass the second-place total of 245 strokes by UW-Oshkosh’s Kayla Priebe. UW-Platteville’s Stephanie Baribeau placed third with 248 strokes, UW-Eau Claire’s Katie Moore fourth with 249, while UW-Oshkosh’s Laura Stair and UW-Stout’s Rachel Hernandez tied for fifth with 251. UW-Stevens Point’s Tiffany Boak took seventh with 253 and UW-Whitewater’s Stephanie Stair and Rebekah Donner tied for eighth with 258.
UW-Oshkosh head coach Liza Ruetten was selected the Coach of the Year, while UW-Platteville’s Taylor Egnarski received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award, which is sponsored by Badgerland Financial.
An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school. Named to the squad were: UW-Eau Claire’s Molly Lattery; UW-Oshkosh’s Samantha Kuik; UW-Platteville’s Taylor Egnarski; UW-River Falls’ Mari Pechacek; UW-Stevens Point’s Tiffany Boak; UW-Stout’s Kacey Simone; and UW-Whitewater’s Jessica Gruber.
