UW-La Crosse Earns Third Straight Women’s Swimming & Diving Crown

BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse secured its third straight crown after three days of competition at the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 22.
The Eagles claimed the 14th league championship in program archives with 893 points to top UW-Eau Claire’s second-place total of 687 points. UW-Whitewater finished third with 665 points, UW-Stevens Point fourth with 632, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 253 and UW-River Falls sixth with 144.
UW-La Crosse’s championship effort on the third day was led by Brooke Reynolds, who earned the 200-yard backstroke for the second consecutive year with a conference-meet record time of 2:02.32. She was voted the Swimmer of the Meet for her efforts during the three-day championship.
The Eagles also received a first-place performance from Sara Zemanovic, who successfully defended her title in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.26.
UW-Eau Claire’s Sara Axness won the three-meter diving crown with a score of 465.30. She also earned the Diver of the Meet honor. Maggie Reilly also posted a first-place finish for the Blugolds, claiming the 200-yard butterfly with a clocking of 2:10.01.
UW-Stevens Point’s Amanda Walker secured the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:25.64 and was a member of victorious 400-yard freestyle relay team that posted a time of 3:29.08. She was joined on the squad by Gemma Pillsbury, Alexa Pronga and Emily Nienhaus.
UW-Whitewater’s Amy Spaay claimed the 200-yard breaststroke for the second straight year with a time of 2:16.22.
UW-La Crosse head coach Charlie King received the Coach of the Year honor and UW-Whitewater’s Lauren Lanphere claimed the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.
