--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point secured its 15th consecutive title following the conclusion of three days of competition at the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 22.

The Pointers earned the 18th first-place plaque in program history with 863 points to surpass UW-La Crosse’s second-place total of 765.50 points.  UW-Whitewater placed third with 702.50 points, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 526, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 192 and UW-River Falls sixth with 191.

UW-Stevens Point claimed two individual titles and one relay crown during the third day of events.  Evan Catani secured the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:05.58, while Sam Jekel was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.16.  Jekel was also a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay foursome that had a first-place performance of 3:03.91.  He was joined by Hans Peters, Kyle McNair and Luuk Dekkers.

UW-Eau Claire’s Alex Card posted a first-place time of 2:01.75 in the 200-yard breaststroke.  He secured the title for the third time in career (2011, 2013) and was selected the Swimmer of the Meet for the second straight season.

UW-La Crosse’s Justin Bublitz won the one-meter diving crown with a score of 507.15 for the second consecutive year and earned the Diver of the Meet honor.

UW-Whitewater’s Joe Devroy won the 200-yard backstroke for the third straight year with a time of 1:50.44.  He became just the second person in WIAC archives to win the event three consecutive seasons, joining UW-Steven Point’s Pete Samuelson (1983-85).

The Warhawks’ John Devroy also became a three-time winner in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:50.45.

UW-Stevens Point head coach Al Boelk was selected as the Coach of the Year and UW-Whitewater’s Benjamin Wynn received the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete Award.
