UW-La Crosse Maintains Advantage At Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship

--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse expanded its advantage following the second of three days of competition at the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 21.

The Eagles have accumulated 601 points through the first two days.  UW-Eau Claire is second with 431, while UW-Stevens Point is third with 430, UW-Whitewater fourth with 417, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 161 and UW-River Falls sixth with 115.

UW-La Crosse secured three individual titles and two relay crowns during the second day of events.  Brooke Reynolds was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke for the third straight season with a time of 56.67.  She joins former Eagle Chelsea Hoff (2008-10) as the only individuals in league archives to win the event three consecutive years. 

Reynolds also claimed the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.66 and was a member of the first-place 200-yard medley relay team.  She was joined on the relay by Leanna Schwartzlow, Allie Yemm and Mikayla Beuch.

Noelle Anderson earned the 400-yard individual medley championship with a time of 4:35.77, while the 800-yard freestyle relay quartet of Garce Jarzemsky, Anna Landgraf, Katelyn Nadeau and Sara Zemanovic had a first-place clocking of 7:44.65.

UW-Stevens Point’s Amanda Walker posted a conference meet record of 1:51.37 to win the 200-yard freestyle, while UW-Whitewater’s Amy Spaay earned her second straight title in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.87.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  It included one member from each school.  Named to the squad were:  UW-Eau Claire’s Sophie Tallard-Sklare; UW-La Crosse’s Noelle Anderson; UW-Oshkosh’s Britney Hilgendorf; UW-River Falls’ Candy Hoelzel; UW-Stevens Point’s Amy Boritzke; and UW-Whitewater’s Brooke Flesher.
