--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point sustained its lead after the second of three days of competition at the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Swimming & Diving Championship at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 21.

The Pointers have accumulated 549 points to lead UW-La Crosse’s second-place sum of 521 points.  UW-Whitewater is third with 442 points, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 350, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 157 and UW-River Falls sixth with 130.

UW-Stevens Point’s Luuk Dekkers claimed his second straight championship in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:41.82.  The 200-yard medley relay team of Kyle McNair, Zach Ogurek, Sam Jekel and Andrew King finished first with a time of 1:32.63.

UW-Whitewater’s John Devroy established a conference meet record of 4:01.90 enroute to winning the 400-yard individual medley.  He also claimed the event at the 2012 championship.  Joe Devroy claimed the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.03.

UW-Eau Claire’s Alex Card secured his third consecutive first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a performance of 55.89.  He is the just the second person in league archives to earn three straight titles in the event.  UW-Stevens Point’s Dan Jesse won four straight crowns from 1977-80.

UW-Oshkosh’s Dalton Anderson won the 100-yard butterfly for the second time in his career with a clocking of 49.60.  He also was victorious in 2012.

UW-La Crosse’s Justin Bublitz claimed the three-meter diving title with a score of 516.35, while the Eagles’ 800-yard freestyle relay foursome of David Flickinger, Jackson Uselman, Charleton Skinner and Garrett Runing achieved a first-place time of 6:51.00.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  It included one member from each school.  Named to the squad were:  UW-Eau Claire’s Ben Epperly; UW-La Crosse’s Nick Bietz; UW-Oshkosh’s Nick Baus; UW-River Falls’ Peter Brudzinski; UW-Stevens Point’s Curran Dougherty; and UW-Whitewater’s Alex Gidlow.
