MADISON, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point’s Alexis Hartman and UW-Whitewater’s Kelsey Nobilio have been tabbed the Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively, to lead the individuals chosen to the 2014 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Volleyball Team by the league coaches. In addition, Pointer head coach Abbey Sutherland was selected the Coach of the Year.
Hartman claimed Player of Year recognition for the second straight year, becoming the first individual in league archives to win the honor multiple seasons. She also received first team laurels in 2011 and 2012 to become the program’s first four-time All-WIAC first team selection. Hartman leads the conference with 11.16 assists per contest. She has had at least 35 assists in 21 of 31 matches, including a career-high 63 against Carthage College (Wis.) on Oct. 4. Hartman owns the school record with 4,888 career assists.
Nobilio earned All-Defensive Team honors for the third straight year, becoming the second Warhawk to accomplish the feat (Alyssa Bauer, 2008-10). She is second in the WIAC with 5.18 digs per contest and has accumulated at least 15 digs in 26 of 32 matches, including a season-high 34 against Emory University (Ga.) on Sept. 12.
Repeat selections on the first team from the 2013 campaign included: UW-Oshkosh’s Katelyn Malcheski; UW-Stevens Point’s Emma Brunkhorst; and UW-Whitewater’s Kim Frei, Kelsey Nobilio and Kristen Ruchti. Nobilio and Ruchti were also first team honorees in 2012.
UW-Oshkosh’s Mandy Trautmann and UW-Stevens Point’s Hannah Picel were named to the four-member All-Defensive Team for the second straight year. Picel also secured all-defensive recognition in 2012.
Sutherland earned the coaching honor for the second consecutive season after directing the Pointers to a share of the WIAC regular-season crown – their fourth straight. UW-Stevens Point owns a 27-4 record and is riding a 15-match winning streak.
An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school.
