NEKOOSA, Wis.
--University of Wisconsin-Stout secured the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship after three days of competition at Lake Arrowhead Golf Course.  With the first-place finish, the Blue Devils earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship that will be conducted May 12-15, 2015, in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

The league crown for UW-Stout is the second in the last three years.  The Blue Devils earned this year’s crown with 966 strokes to surpass the 1,000 strokes compiled by defending champion UW-Eau Claire.  UW-Oshkosh placed third with 1,051 strokes, UW-Whitewater fourth with 1,054, UW-Platteville fifth with 1,071, UW-River Falls sixth with 1,105 and UW-Stevens Point seventh with 1,135.

UW-Eau Claire’s Kate Engler claimed medalist honors for the second straight year with a 54-hole total of 234 strokes.  She is the third individual in WIAC history to win the title back-to-back seasons, joining former Blugolds Maggie Loney (2004-05) and Katie Maurer (2008-09).  UW-Eau Claire has had an individual secure medalist honors at the league meet 12 times in the 19-year history of the event.

UW-Stout head coach Howie Samb was selected the Coach of the Year for the fourth straight season, while UW-River Falls’ Gillian McDonald earned the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.
