UW-Stout Leads Women’s Golf Championship

NEKOOSA, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stout leads the 2014 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Golf Championship following the first of three days of competition at Lake Arrowhead Golf Course on Oct. 3.
The Blue Devils accumulated 334 strokes on the Pines Course of the 36-hole Lake Arrowhead layout to top UW-Eau Claire’s second-place sum of 339 strokes. The Blugolds are the defending champion of the event. UW-Whitewater is third with 345 strokes, UW-Oshkosh fourth with 362, UW-Platteville fifth with 367, UW-River Falls sixth with 379 and UW-Stevens Point seventh with 391.
Individually, UW-Eau Claire’s Kate Engler is the defending medalist and leads the 54-player field with 78 strokes. UW-Eau Claire’s Emily Stone and UW-Stout’s Megan Ramp are tied for second with 81 strokes. UW-Whitewater’s Claudia Rhein and Stephanie Stair are tied for fourth with 83 strokes. In a three-way tie for sixth are UW-Whitewater’s Sammie Leibham, along with UW-Stout’s Mariah Chesley and Allison Van Heuklom at 84. UW-Oshkosh’s McKenzie Paul, along with UW-Stout’s Rachel Hernandez and Brittany McNett-Emmerich are tied for ninth with 85.
The 54-hole championship is scheduled to resume on Oct. 4 with tee times beginning at 10 a.m. The round will be played on the Lakes Course.
