MADISON, Wis.--Bob Berezowitz, who directed the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater football program for 22 seasons, has received a Special Recognition Award from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).

Special Recognition Awards are presented to individuals who have made unique contributions and/or have served the conference in an official capacity (e.g., athletics administrators, coaches, faculty athletics representatives, officials) over a number of years.

Berezowitz led the Warhawks from 1985-2006 and amassed a 158-73-4 record (.681 winning percentage), including eight WIAC championships and five appearances in the NCAA Division III championship.  His 158 wins rank third on the conference’s all-time list.  During the 2005 and 2006 seasons, his squads recorded a 28-2 mark and advanced to the national championship game.

In 2005, Berezowitz was chosen the NCAA Division III Coach of the Year by the American Football Coaches Association, Football Gazette and American Football Monthly.  He was selected the WIAC Coach of the Year six times and mentored 38 players to a total of 73 All-America honors.

He received his degree in 1968 from UW-Whitewater, where he was a four-year letterwinner in football and three-year letterwinner in baseball.  In 1966, he was selected to the AP Little All-America Second Team and UPI Little All-America First Team.  Berezowitz garnered All-America honorable mention recognition on the baseball diamond in 1965.

In 2003 and 2004, Berezowitz was responsible for designing and raising funds for a building containing athletic offices and meeting rooms adjacent to Perkins Stadium.  The facility was renamed the Bob Berezowitz Student Athlete Center in 2012.  He serves on the board of Directors for the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA), mentors WIAC coaches and assists WIAC student-athletes aspiring for the National Football League.

He has been enshrined in the UW-Whitewater Athletics Hall of Fame (1982), National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics District 14 Hall of Fame (1982) and WFCA Hall of Fame (1998).
