--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse claimed its second straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Championship after two days of competition at Roger Harring Stadium at Veteran’s Memorial Field Sports Complex on May 4.

The first-place finish for the Eagles is the 28th in program history and sixth in the last seven seasons.  This year’s crown was won with 246.50 points to surpass the 165.50 points accumulated by UW-Oshkosh.  UW-Eau Claire placed third with 120.50 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 106.50, UW-River Falls and UW-Stout tied for fifth with 58, UW-Stevens Point seventh with 52, UW-Platteville eighth with 36 and UW-Superior ninth with 14.

UW-La Crosse won three individual titles and two relay crowns during the second day of events.  Marissa Mahr secured the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 1:02.24, Jamie Ludwigson claimed the triple jump with a leap of 38-2 1/4 and Jena Weigel was victorious in the heptathlon with 4,608 points.

The Eagles won the 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay crowns with times of 47.15 and 3:52.21, respectively.  The 4x100-meter squad consisted of Ludwigson, Meg Heafy, Claire Elliott and Maya Vazaquez, while Elliott, Jenna Halvorson, Rebecca Scheuermann and Shannon Klein composed the 4x400-meter relay unit.

UW-Oshkosh’s Christy Cazzola was a triple-winner during the second day of competition.  She won the 800-meter run and 1,500-meter run for the third straight year with times of 2:09.76 and 4:44.61, respectively.  Cazzola is one of three individuals in WIAC history to capture three consecutive titles in the 1,500-meter run, joining former Titan Elizabeth Woodworth (2002-04) and UW-Platteville’s Marcia Taddy (2005-08).

Cazzola also emerged with the 5,000-meter run crown, producing a time of 17:03.56.  She was joined atop the awards podium by teammates Kasey Ederer and Abby Martin.  Ederer was victorious in the high jump with a height of 5-3 3/4, while Martin claimed the shot put with a heave of 44-9 1/2.

UW-Whitewater’s Lexie Sondgeroth earned a pair of first-place finishes during the second day of the meet, capturing the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash with times of 12.03 and 24.44, respectively. 

UW-Eau Claire’s Erin Schoenfelder secured the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.34, while UW-Stevens Point’s Kadie Flynn won the discus with a toss of 136-8.  Flynn is the Pointer to win the event since Becky Seevers in 1980.  UW-River Falls’ Alyssa Rasmussen earned the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.19.

UW-Eau Claire’s Erin Schoenfelder received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.

Named to the Larry Zirgibel All-Sportsmanship Team were:  UW-Eau Claire’s Erin Schoenfelder; UW-La Crosse’s Tia Anderson; UW-Oshkosh’s Kristin Stockheimer; UW-Platteville’s Chelsea Delzer; UW-River Falls’ Stephanie Walek; UW-Stevens Point’s Alexa Lewin; UW-Stout’s Heather Inczauskis; UW-Superior’s Victoria Vinokur; and UW-Whitewater’s Lacy Beck.  The team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  It included one member from each school.
