Men’s Indoor Track & Field Awards Announced
MADISON, Wis.--The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) has announced its award winners for the 2013 men’s indoor track & field season, based on voting by the league coaches.
UW-Eau Claire’s Thurgood Dennis earned the Track Performer of the Meet from the WIAC championship, while UW-La Crosse’s Isaac Vazquez received the Field Performer of the Meet plaque. UW-La Crosse’s Josh Buchholtz was selected the Coach of the Year.
Dennis captured the track honor for the second straight year after winning the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash with times of 6.79 and 21.93, respectively. His time in the 60-meter dash established a conference meet record. Dennis was also a member of the 4x200-meter relay team that posted a first-place time of 1:29.31. He is the third individual in league archives to win the award in back-to-back seasons, joining UW-Stout’s Terry Anders (1996-97) and UW-Oshkosh’s Matt Groose (2002-03).
Vazquez is the first individual in WIAC history to secure the field honor three consecutive years. He set conference meet records en route to winning the long jump and triple jump. Vazquez had distances of 24-11 in the long jump and 50-9 1/2 in the triple jump.
Buchholtz collected the coaching award for the third straight season and fourth time in his career after leading the Eagles to their 12th consecutive league crown. UW-La Crosse won six individual titles and one relay crown during the two-day league championship.
