STEVENS POINT, Wis.
--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse captured its 12th consecutive title following two days of competition at the 2013 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship at UW-Stevens Point’s Multi Activity Center on Feb. 23.

The Eagles claimed the 38th first-place finish in program history with 171.50 points to surpass UW-Oshkosh’s second-place total of 141 points.  UW-Eau Claire placed third with 109 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 106, UW-Platteville fifth with 68.50, UW-Stevens Point sixth with 48, UW-Stout seventh with 23, UW-River Falls eighth with 18 and UW-Superior ninth with 16.

UW-La Crosse won four individual titles during the second day of events.  Isaac Vazquez earned the long jump for the second straight year with a conference meet record leap of 50-9 1/2.  Sean Royer successfully defended his title in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.77.
 
Aric Hoeschen was victorious in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.63, while David Stilin won the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:27.89.
 
UW-Eau Claire’s Thurgood Dennis secured first-place finishes in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash for the second straight year with times of 6.79 and 21.93, respectively.  His time in the 60-meter dash established a conference meet record.  He was also a member of the triumphant 4x200-meter relay team that posted a time of 1:29.31.  Joining him on the squad were Cody Prince, Joe Makeever and Seth Friedrich.
 
UW-Oshkosh’s Donald Klitz claimed the high jump with a leap of 6-10 3/4, while Pete Delzer won the 35-pound weight throw with a fling of 66-2 1/4.
 
UW-Whitewater’s Marcus Smith set a conference meet record with a time of 8.11 en route to winning the 60-meter hurdles.  The Warhawk foursome of Devin Grainger, Bryce Rudebeck, Kevin Gorman and Jared Denu posted a first-place time of 3:19.63 in the 4x400-meter relay.
 
UW-Stevens Point’s Dan Sullivan claimed the one-mile run for the second straight year with a time of 4:09.85, while UW-Stout’s Zach Anderson secured the heptathlon with 5,132 points.
 
UW-La Crosse’s Paul Yerhot was named the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  It included one member from each school.  Named to the squad were:  UW-Eau Claire’s Aaron Easker; UW-La Crosse’s Isaac Vazquez; UW-Oshkosh’s John Dewitt; UW-Platteville’s Preston Baker; UW-River Falls’ Carl Calabrese; UW-Stevens Point’s Brian Thill; UW-Stout’s Wes Evers; UW-Superior’s Tony Willette; and UW-Whitewater’s Matt Mikesell.
