UW-Oshkosh Takes First Day Advantage At Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship
STEVENS POINT, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, the two-time defending champion, holds the advantage following the first of two days of competition at the 2013 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship at UW-Stevens Point’s Multi Activity Center on Feb. 22.
The Titans compiled 60 points to surpass UW-La Crosse’s second-place total of 50.50 points. UW-Whitewater is third with 38.50 points, UW-Stout fourth with 22, UW-Eau Claire fifth with 19.50, UW-Platteville sixth with 16, UW-Stevens Point seventh with 15.50 and UW-River Falls and UW-Superior are tied for eighth with 6.
The Titans won two individual titles and one relay crown en route to their first-day advantage. Christy Cazzola captured the 5,000-meter run with a conference meet record time of 16:40.52. Breanna Strupp claimed the shot put for the second consecutive year with a heave of 49-9.
The UW-Oshkosh quartet of Cazzola, McKenzie Kelly, Stephanie Jahn and Alexandria Mahoney won the distance medley relay with a time of 12:17.93.
UW-Whitewater’s Lexie Sondgeroth posted a first-place finish in the long jump with a conference meet record leap of 19-6 1/4, while Melanie Pilon won the pole vault with a height of 12-2 1/2.
UW-La Crosse’s Kayla Ashland was victorious in the high jump with a leap of 5-4 1/2.
