UW-Oshkosh Wins Second Straight Women’s Indoor Track and Field Title

Day One Recap

MENOMONIE, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh won its second straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) women’s indoor track and field championship at UW-Stout’s Sports and Fitness Center on Feb. 25.

The Titans amassed 152 points during the two-day competition to secure the 13th first-place trophy in program history. UW-Eau Claire finished second with 121 points, UW-La Crosse third with 108, UW-Whitewater fourth with 84, UW-Stevens Point fifth with 67, UW-River Falls sixth with 60, UW-Stout seventh with 52, UW-Platteville eighth with 43 and UW-Superior ninth with 15.

UW-Oshkosh secured three individual titles during the second day of the championship.  Christy Cazzola was triumphant in the 800-meter run and one-mile run with times of 2:14.53 and 4:56.28, respectively.  It marked the second straight year that she has won both events.  Alexia Child secured the 20-pound weight throw with a fling of 61-2 1/4.

UW-Eau Claire also posted three first-place finishes as Jordanne Greenup earned the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash with times of 7.78 and 25.30, respectively.  Talissa Emberts won the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.03.

UW-Stevens Point’s Erin Kline was victorious in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.88.  She established a conference meet record in the preliminaries of the event with a performance of 8.81.  Kelly Haen posted a first-place time of 10:28.97 to win the 3,000-meter run.

UW-Superior’s Traelynn Lewis and UW-Stout’s Jessika Smith both placed their names in the school record books by becoming the first individuals in program history to win their respective events.  Lewis captured the triple jump with a leap of 38-0 3/4, while Smith earned the pentathlon with 3,265 points.

UW-La Crosse’s Jamie Ludwigson, Jenna Halvorson, Hannah Mueller and Caitlin Wippermann were victorious in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:42.95.

The UW-Platteville quartet of Ann Tank, Carshella Porter, Stephanie Wyss and Deidre Dillman were victorioius in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:55.37.

UW-Platteville’s Ann Tank received the Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete Award.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. It included one member from each school. Named to the squad were: UW-Eau Claire’s Michelle Baranek; UW-La Crosse’s Megan Knutson; UW-Oshkosh’s Chelsea Benitz; UW-Platteville’s Megan Bruckschen; UW-River Falls’ Alexandra Radtke; UW-Stevens Point’s Jamie Clarkson; UW-Stout's Jodi Larson; UW-Superior’s Christina Micheletti; and UW-Whitewater’s Janna Wise.
