BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point captured its 13th consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship following three days of competition at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 18.

The league trophy for the Pointers is the 16th in program history and 15th in the last 16 seasons. They compiled 874 points to surpass the second place total of 753 points by UW-La Crosse. UW-Whitewater finished third with 632, UW-Eau Claire fourth with 541, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 305 and UW-River Falls sixth with 169.

UW-Stevens Point’s Joey Clapp won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.13 and teamed with Sam Davy, Eric Emerson and Colin Drake to establish a conference meet record of 3:01.26 in winning the 400-yard freestyle relay.  Clapp was chosen the Performer of the Meet for his efforts at the championship.

UW-Oshkosh’s Phil Devine won the one-meter diving competition with a WIAC meet record total of 563.10 points.  He secured Diver of the Meet honors for the fourth straight season and became the second individual in conference history to win the one-meter event four times, joining UW-Eau Claire’s John Karpe (1996-99).

UW-Stevens Point’s Alex Loftus won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:04.55, while UW-Eau Claire’s Jake McDade was victorious in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:15.61.

UW-Whitewater produced a pair of first-place performances during the final day of the meet as Joe Devroy secured the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:51.13 and John Devroy had a time of 1:51.88 en route to winning the 200-yard butterfly.

UW-Stevens Point’s Al Boelk earned the Coach of the Year honor and UW-La Crosse’s Joel Knuesel claimed the Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete Award.

An All-Sportsmanship Team was chosen for individuals that displayed exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season.  It included one member from each school.  Named to the squad were:  UW-Eau Claire’s Ben Epperly, UW-La Crosse’s Patrick Schulze, UW-Oshkosh’s Bobby Theer, UW-River Falls’ Justin Arneson, UW-Stevens Point’s Sam Davy and UW-Whitewater’s Adam Altenburg.
