UW-La Crosse Takes Lead At Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship

BROWN DEER, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-La Crosse took the lead following the second of three days of competition at the 2012 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center on Feb. 17.

The Eagles have compiled 603 points in the championship, while UW-Eau Claire, the leader after the first day, is in second with 492. Two-time defending champion UW-Stevens Point is third with 490, UW-Whitewater fourth with 276, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 171 and UW-River Falls sixth with 113.

UW-La Crosse’s Danielle Ellingson claimed the 100-yard breaststroke with a conference meet record time of 1:03.04, while Andrea Kolitsch produced a conference meet record time of 57.30 enroute to winning the 100-yard butterfly. Abby Diehl secured the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:54.04 and Brooke Reynolds earned the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.34. Tessa Kahring was victorious in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 427.15.

Ellingson was also a member of the first-place 800-yard freestyle and 200-yard medley relay teams. She teamed with Diehl, Andrea Teske and Grace Jarzemsky to produce a time of 7:38.84 in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Kolitsch, Reynolds and Erica O’Neill joined Ellingson with a time of 1:44.20 in the 200-yard medley relay.

UW-La Crosse’s Andrea Kolitsch won the 100-yard butterfly with a conference meet record performance of 57.30. She was also a member of the victorious 200-yard medley relay team that posted a time of 1:44.20. Brooke Reynolds, Danielle Ellingson and Erica O’Neill completed the foursome.

UW-Eau Claire’s Nicole Dorvinen won the 400-yard individual medley for the third straight season with a time of 4:27.58. She is the third individual in WIAC listings to win the event three consecutive years, joining UW-Stevens Point’s Nan Werdin (1991-93) and UW-Eau Claire’s Brianna Crowley (1999-2001).
