Pointers Hold Slim Lead At Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship
Day One Recap
BROWN DEER, Wis.--Five meet records were broken as University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point continued to hold the lead following the second of three days of events at the 2011 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women’s Swimming and Diving Championship that is being conducted at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
The defending champion Pointers have totaled 544 points to surpass the second-place sum of 531 points by UW-La Crosse. UW-Eau Claire is third with 516 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 288 points, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 155 points and UW-River Falls sixth with 115 points.
UW-Stevens Point claimed two individual titles and one relay crown during the second day of competition. Kelly Kading set a meet record of 1:03.93 in winning the 100-yard breaststroke for the second straight year. Lisa Clemens won the 100-yard butterfly for the second consecutive season with a meet-record performance of 57.36.
Kading and Clemens also teamed with Ashley Majewski and Jessica Nordstrom to establish a meet record in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:44.55.
UW-Eau Claire’s Nicole Dorvinen secured her second straight crown in the 400-yard individual medley with a meet-record clocking of 4:26.85. Casey Preissel set a meet record in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.24.
UW-La Crosse’s Erica O’Neill won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.16.
