Pointers Top Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship
BROWN DEER, Wis.--Eleven-time defending league champion University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point sprinted to the lead following the first of three days of competition at the 2011 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men’s Swimming and Diving Championship that is being held at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.
The Pointers accumulated 258 points to better the second-place sum of 188 points by UW-Eau Claire. UW-La Crosse is third with 142 points, UW-Whitewater fourth with 129 points, UW-Oshkosh fifth with 72 points and UW-River Falls sixth with 56 points.
UW-Stevens Point claimed all three individual events and both relay competitions. Luuk Dekkers won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:29.01, while Sam Davy earned the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:52.77 and Joey Clapp secured the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.52.
Davy and Clapp also contributed to the first-place 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relay teams that produced times of 1:34.12 and 3:22.82, respectively. Matthew Olp was a part of both relay quartets, while Eric Emerson completed the 200-yard freestyle relay and Ryan Farmer the 400-yard medley relay.
