Titans' Heard To Play In USA/Mexico All-Star Football Game
OSHKOSH, Wis.--University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh senior cornerback Nate Heard takes to the field one more time when he plays in the 2010 Tazón de Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) on Saturday (Dec. 18) in Toluca, Mexico.
Heard, a native of Milwaukee, Wis. (Lutheran), will be a member of Team Stars & Stripes, a squad of 41 seniors from 22 different NCAA Division III schools. The team, guided by former La Salle University (Pa.), Delaware Valley College and Widener University (Pa.) head coach Bill Manlove, faces off against the CONADEIP All-Stars from Mexico. Kickoff is set for noon (central time) at Tec de Monterrey Stadium.
The Mexican team consists of players from the newly formed CONADEIP League, a national conference of private schools. Tec is the most notable private university in Mexico, with dozens of campuses scattered around the country and its base in Monterrey. The Borregos dominate the American football scene each year at every level, however, they were recently defeated by the University de Las Americas for the National Championship.
In the 2009 Tazón de Estrellas, Team Stars & Stripes suffered a 24-12 loss to the Tec Monterrey All-Stars. UW-Oshkosh was represented in that game by linebacker James Taraboi.
Heard received All-WIAC First Team and NCAA Division III All-West Region Second Team honors this past season after compiling 31 tackles, 13 passes defended, three pass interceptions and one fumble recovery.
Heard started 34 of the 38 games that he played in for UW-Oshkosh the past four seasons. The criminal justice major finished his career with 114 tackles, 51 passes defended and 12 pass interceptions.
