Nelson set a school record with a finish of 23-minutes, 54-seconds, while competing at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational on Oct. 12, in Madison. In a race featuring 45 NCAA Division I schools and several unattached runners, Nelson finished 35th in a field of 316. He would have been the top finisher for 27 of the teams. Nelson recorded splits of 4:56, 9:07, 15:04 and 23:54 with a pace of 4:49.
