He picked up the save in UW-La Crosse's 8-7 victory over Marian University (Wis.) on March 14, pitching 1.0 inning, allowing one hit with one strikeout. Verthein then earned a complete-game victory in the Eagles' 9-5 win over Johns Hopkins University (Md.) on March 17. He went 9.0 innings, allowing 11 hits, five runs and two walks, while striking out seven.
